Hi Roe
Do you live in Scotland?
The National Archives of Scotland (http://www.nas.gov.uk/guides/crime.asp) in Edinburgh will have the records you are looking for.

Once you have found out the date of his crime and when he was tried you may also want to visit the Mitchell library (http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/Libraries/Librarylocations/themitchell.htmMitchell library) in Glasgow where you will be able to check the newspapers for any reports.

Good luck
Jim

Hi Roecoyle

If you follow the above link to the National Archives then take the link named electronic catalouge then click on Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) there is a search facility which has some brief index info on some indictments and other cases held at the archive ....I found my great gran had got two months for an acid attack on her soon to be husband....!!!!

It, as ever, depends on how unusal the name you are looking for .....

Best of luck

Depending upon when this happened you may find that the records are sealed. Under the circumstances as the death happened in a "public" place a full report would have gone to the Procurator Fiscal in Glasgow who would have decided the next stage.
If the death occurred after 1895 it is possible that a public inquiry may have been ordered - rare but it does happen.

If you have a look at http://www.crownoffice.gov.uk/ they have a contact page and may be able to provide further information about where you should be looking.
