I've got another thing I can't read - I'm not doing very well today!
Can anyone read the lower two occupations? i think the bottom one is book-something...
Thanks very much!

Bookbinder for the bottom one Caz still trying to work out the other one
old rowley
-
The second on looks to me like "merchatile". Could this be a miss spelling for "mercantile" therefore being a merchant?
be interesting to see what others make of this one.
old rowley

Thans old rowley - it's certainly a bit of a tricky one :-\
-
At first I thought(as old rowley did) that it said Merchatile.
BUT.............if you look at the M on the word Maker above, this one is nothing like it.
So I'm wondering now if it does indeed begin with an M?

I just had another look at the page... there's an M the same near the top of the page on the name Mary Ann
the page ref is RG9/241/89/14 if anyone wants a look?

Ok Carrie- thanks for that extra info.
So the enumerator does occasionally do posh M's ;D ;D ;D
See also the word Manufacturer about a dozen names up.
So I do still agree with Old Rowley that it could well say Mercatile(with the N missing)

Here is a passage of writing from the website posted below...
"The maker is unknown but was obviously a skilled cabinet-maker, probably resident in Sydney in the 1830s. The presence on a wax portrait in the second cabinet of the trade label of Thomas Blunt 'Fancy Cabinet Maker' may indicate the involvement of this furniture maker in the making of the cabinets. However, as Blunt appears to have specialised in the production of smaller items such as frames and writing cases his level of involvement may have extended only to the fitting of, for example, the purpose-built coin drawers in cabinet two."

My man obviously decided that fancy cabinets weren't for him... he went on to be a cooper!
