Talking to my stepfather the other day he said that he seems to recall that one of the female bodfishes on my mum's side was a high class prostitute, but he does not know which one.
I have a choice of six born between 1850 and 1867. Where would I find out about high class prostitutes?

LOL...I wouldn't think that it was something that they would have wanted recorded(!)
And I guess that it had a fairly short career time span...(But this is just a guess:-)

There are quite a few threads about prostitutes. Try going into Search and entering Prostitute(s). You'll find all sorts of info.

Have a look at the census records and see what their profession is. I very much doubt if it would be "prostitute" (or even "dressmaker"!), but there might be something that does not ring quite true.

l have seen Prostitute recorded on a Census at least once, but maybe it was all down to the person taking the Census at the time.

I have a bodfish in my tree, "Annie Bodfish" any connection?
Chris.

No Annie in my tree, however that does not mean to say no link, as Bodfish is an unusal name. My are mainly Oxfordshire and then Leamington. Does that help any?

The Annie Bodfish i have married a John Cooper who was born in Kingham Oxen 1813.
They had a daughter Leah who married a Thomas Henry Churchill----where my line of the tree comes in.

Someone in a fairly working class area living on 'independant means' Or an actress, at one time that was a euphemism for a 'lady of the night'.
