Could anyone tell me is Tucker street (E16 which apparently no longer exists) was close to Nelson street?
-
Hi Jillie,
Tucker Street, which looks to have been a reasonably long road judging by the number of people who lived there in 1881, was located off Bidder Street which is still there in Canning Town. Nelson Street was on another piece in the census but I reckon it was probably within half a mile of Tucker Street. So not far :)

So close enough for an elderly father to live near by then?
-
I reckon half a mile is pretty close!

Hello
My grandfather lived in Quadrant street which ran into Tucker Street, both off Bidder street E16 He walked the half mile or so to visit my grangmother in Nelson street. Both Quadrant street and Tucker street were demolished in the 1930's as slum clearance. Nelson Street was also demolished in the 1930's when the Silvertown Way was built.
If you would like a map of the area try www.alangodfreymaps.co.uk the one I have is for Poplar 1914 london sheet 65.

Parkbone St? On a death certificate for Canning Town 1914. Any suggestions for address of informant?
-
RATHBONE STREET - still exists though wholly redeveloped, but you'll find it on this 1916 published OS street map, look down right hand border of the sheet about halfway down where its says "WEST HAM" and you'll find Rathbone Street running north-south just in from the edge of sheet.

Hope you don't mind: if, having found the location, you click on the 'link to this view' tab bottom left of the page you'll get a URL which leads you directly to the spot i.e. https://maps.nls.uk/view/104194818#zoom=6&lat=5922&lon=15322&layers=BT
