Title: Regiment Identification Please
Post by: oursutherlands on Sunday 13 August 06 12:22 BST (UK)
Could someone be good enough to try and identify the regiments of these two people. This photo was one of many in my grandfathers collection, and I would like to narrow it down to which of his siblings these may be. The man was probably a Gordon Highlander or a Seaforth Highlander. As for the woman, presumably she is in the uniform of some home based group. The picture was taken, I think, in the north of Scotland about the time of WW1.

Thanks for anyone taking the time to help me identify these ancestors.

The uniforms are from Womens Army Auxillary Corps and the Seaforth Highlanders.

Thanks for that Wizz. Further searching at nationalarchives has revealed the identity of the female. Have narrowed the man down to three.

By any chance, have you any idea what the stripe on his left fore-arm signifies?

Thanks again

Hi  :)

The soldier in your photo is a Gordon Highlander, so you were correct in your first assumption (in your first post).

Here is the cap badge:

Thanks for that everyone.

I got a bit way laid by the buckle of his belt, which is like an "S". It looks as if things have been narrowed down to my Grandfather, who was in the Gordons. The girl was, as it turns out, his sister who, after searching NA was in the WAAC - managed to get her records.

Thanks again ... and happy digging up the dead!

:) Hi and Thanks for coming back to us Neil, yes your man is definitely a Gordon Highlander and their regimental motto is 'By Dand' -  you can google it's meaning.
