Researching for great grandmother - Eleanor Atkinson - who was living in High Holborn, London at the time of her marriage to John Soan Sands on 21/10/1861 - the only address given is - High Holborn - ,but, they were married at the parish church of - St. Andrew, holborn, London in the county of middlesex.
The marriage was on 21/10/1861 so she should be listed under her maiden surname - Atkinson in the 1861, 1851 and 1841 censuses.
Eleanor gives her father as john Atkinson and her birth place as donegal
I am hoping that she will appear on either the 1861, 1851 and 1841 census.
In the 1871 westerham, kent census (John and Eleanor sands had returned to the Sevenoaks region where his parents lived) - Eleanor gives her age as 38. and again gives her place of birth as Donegal.
Any help will be much appreciated. thanks - luc.

Hi Cal,
Wow,how very fascinating and it definitely sounds as if it is her - thank you so much for letting me know!
What year was this from and where did you find it?
Regards - Luc.

HI
This is from the 1861 census.
It looks she is a Laundry maid in one of the houses in the estate of the Earl of Norbury. The head of her household is a Fanny Kitchin Hop Merchants wife

hi Cal,
Thanks for that I assume you mean the 1861 Census for westerham in Kent?
I was searching all last night for Dumdale Mansion - but could not find it - is it ireland or kent any ideas?
kind regards - luc

HI Luc
Yes 1861 Kent.
I have had a look at surrounding census pages and the mansion the Earl lived in was Valence Mansion. I have had a search for that too and the nearest I can get is a golf course in Westerham, Kent. Maybe that is what became of it???

Do you think it should read Dunsdale ???

Thanks Casalguidi and Cal,
That has cleared where Eleanor was working and if we can find her on the 1851 and 1841 kent census it might give any idea when she or her parents came to England - they may will have been sent accross as servants from ireland as the Earl was principally an Irish landowner - all fascinating stuff -
Thanks again to you both - regards - luc

I think we are searching the same family. My GG Grandfather was George Atkinson, born 1825 from Donegal, Ireland. I think his father was Thomas J. Atkinson, Esq. Did you find out what you needed? I just started my search and there doesnt seem to be any Atkinsons left in Donegal. Weird!
