The 16th Canadian Infantry Battalion was cobbled together in 1914 from units of 4 other Canadian Highland Regiments. They were companies drawn from Vancouver's Seaforth Highlanders (the 72nd Canadian Battalion), the Gordon Highlanders of Victoria, Winnipeg's Cameron Highlanders and Hamilton's Canadian Scottish. In June 1916 a further draft of 150 men from the 72nd joined the battalion. Did these men join a particular company or were they dispersed throughout the battalion? Also, if the 72nd formed one company, does anyone know which one it was?

Hullo,
My Grandfather is buried in
Aix Noulette Cimitrie
Commune (Extension)
Aix Noulette
Pas - de - Calais
having died 1917 as a serving soldier with the 16th BN. CANADIAN INF.
I know it was disbanded but I'm wondering if there is any way of finding out if
a) there's some sort of Association covering that Battallion and
b) if there's a way of contacting descendants of any who served in the Battallion.
I've just newly set up a forum for Aix Noulette Cimitrie Commune (Extension)
and am thinking about one for the 16th.
The url quoted in above message no longer works.
Thanks,
James.
