Hi Jason

Sutton in Ashfield (SUA), Walter John Plumb, 16.2.1876, 4 month Abode:New Cross, Burial:SUA

The only one listed on NFHS CD for MAN or SUA.

3 at Edingley (EDI) 1 at Annesley (ANN) and 5 at Warsop (WAR).

Have a look at this site: http://www.oldnotts.co.uk/index.htm there may be something of interest.

Hello Jason,

I think Jane forgot to look for Plumbe with the  “e”

I can’t find where your Charles Plumbe was buried, the Elizabeth aged 75 yrs is his wife and the first three mentioned burials are their children, the others I think belong to John Plumbe who was born in Warsop abt 1854, I think he is with a brother on an earlier census who was born in Lamley.

I asked Sutton and Mansfield cemetery to check to see if they have Charles Plumbe’s burial but unfortunately they don’t have him.
We know he died on the 15th August 1899 and he asked for no flowers by request, so where he is I don’t know!

The photo of the gravestone of Charles Plumbe’s grandson, William Collingwood Plumbe is winging its way to you,he is buried in Mansfield cemetery, grave ref; A 6725, he died 13th November 1918 and although it doesn’t say on the stone he was 32 yrs and there is only him in the grave.

PLUMBE              Charles Marshall    1.8.1851    age 4   abode Sutton in Ashfield
PLUMBE              John Collingwood    2.5.1852     age3   abode Sutton in Ashfield
PLUMBE              Mary Elizabeth      8.11.1876     age 20 abode Market Place

PLUMBE              Elizabeth           19.7.1895   age 75 abode High Pavement

PLUMBE              Clara Elizabeth     14.9.1882    age 4   abode Forest Side
PLUMBE              Edith Annie         4.7.1885    age 5 months abode Forest Side
PLUMBE              Frederick           1.10.1887    age 5 abode Lane End

Hello Karen,

From the Notts Burial index there is no sign of Harold/Harry Walvin for any parish, although not all are covered...Mansfield are to about 1898 and Sutton in Ashfield to 1901.
Do you have any idea of the timescale he died?

Sheila.

My great grandmother Elizabeth QUIRK nee PLUMBE is buried in Mansfield Cemetery.  I wondered if she is related to your PLUMBEs, Jason?

She died in 1919 aged 45.  She is interred in section C grave space 12137.  The charge for interrment in section C was 7s 6d, and for digging & filling in the grave 5s.  I don't know if she has a headstone.

Hi Bearkat,

I hope Jason gets notification of your post, I don’t think he has been online in a while; I have been wondering how he had been doing re his website.

You said you don’t know if your great-grandmothers grave has a headstone, I can have a go at finding out if you like and get a pic? It is amazing to see the cost of  a burial in 1919!

Another snippet of info from the NFHS baptism index if you do not have it already……

Mansfield, St Philips R.C.
Joseph Quirk, father Thomas Quirk, mother Elizabeth Plumbe, born  25th  October 1905, baptised 29th October 1905 – abode 20, Cromwell St, Mansfield.

Hi Dizzifish
Many thanks for Joseph's baptism.  I think most of the other children were born in Halifax.

I don't expect there is a headstone (but it would be fantastic if you could find one) as the family were not well off and work was hard to come by.  Elizabeth's husband, Thomas, died shortly afterwards.
