Title: 1841 census Wigan
Post by: sadnil on Wednesday 09 August 06 14:19 BST (UK)
I can't find the following on the 1841 or 1851 census

Thomas Morris c1791 solicitor
Ann Morris 1791
Ellen Ann 1830

I have found them on later census at Fairhurst Hall Wrightington.
I think I found Thomas in an 1825 directory on Millgate Wigan but don't know if that might have been a business address.
I would be gratefull for any help.

Thanks Mobo,

I had found Thomas and Ellen on the 1871 at Fairhurst Hall and then Ellen on the census after that living in London.

I am not sure about the 1851 census as when I looked there was a housekeeper and gamekeeper at the Hall which begs the question if Ann and Ellen were in North Meols where was Thomas.

Thomas would have been at the Hall in 1861 but was still alive in 1871 for the census. I think I have found his death in 1871 but need to find when Ann died.

The mysterious absences could be explained in part by the family's having two residences (Brunswick Villa, Southport and Fairhurst Hall, Wrightington) Ellen tombstone states that she was of... (both addresses) the name of the villa is clear on the tombstone.
As they were wealthy, they could afford to go abroad, for their health and might just miss the census. An alternative explanation may be a mistranscription of name(s)

I see that there is a picture of Fairhurst Hall, where Ellen lived.

Google "Wigan World" and "Fairhurst Hall" to see it.

Alan.

Hi
I'd be really grateful for any infor on Ellen and her connection with the Wigan Brewery, it could help tie up a very long held family story. Also would you know if there is any connection with a Henry Page?
Many thanks

Hi again
My great, great grandmother was a Catherine Morris born c1826. She married David Spokes in Highgate, Middlesex c1850. Catherine, it would appear died (can't find when) and David went on to marry her sister Eliza Morris) born 1834, baptised in Battersea) in 1870 Deptford. Cathering and Eliza's parents were Emmanuel ( my great, great, great grandfather, born 1800 in Ham Surrey). and Catherine Morris.
I have some information on Ellen Ann Robinson Morris but not enough to make the connection between her and my side of the Morris family. I suspect that she may have been the daughter of a close relative to Emmanuel c1800, possible a brother of his?? I have no information whatsoever of any of Emmanuel's birth family other than his parents may have been a John and Jane Morris (definitely not guaranteed).
Any info anyone could add would be gratefully received.
