I came accross an entry for a relative Called William Pakenham. in 1914
His residence was given as Athy County Westmeath
I had assumed that it was incorrect and should have read Athy county Kildare as he was an Army Man and there was a barracks in Kildare
But is there an Athy in Westmeath also ?

, not heard of in in westmeath, regards joe

not sure if it helps, but i seem to recall that Westmeath was part of Meath, but got divided sometime in the past into a seperate county, not far from Westmeath is the town of Athboy, Meath . There are still a number of Packenhams in the area. bodger

Hi Fozzy Bear
You are correct, Athy is in Co Kildare, not sure why Westmeath would have been written, the counties arent even neighbours.

Hope this helps

Could be an incorrect entry for Athlone, which has an important militray barracks and is partly in Westmeath.
