This is a first genealogical foray in association (long distance) with my mother who was born and bred in Brighouse.
I have traced back to my Great Grandfather Leonard Hirst - 1901 census identified: Age 21, engine fitter and living Bradford Road House, Cleckheaton. He later married Alice Tempest (DOB c1883)and was supposed to have moved up in the world through an involvement in a pit which my mother maintains was at Heartshead.
Could anyone help with this line and also advise me of the best route to trace further back (His Father was Samuel Hirst, married to Mary, DOB c 1850)?

Hi
See below for the 1891 image where you leonard is still at home only 12 so I suppose he would be.
Notice they are still at same address as the previous census.
