Title: Biddulph Moor help, please.
Post by: juliemc72 on Monday 07 August 06 12:33 BST (UK)
Hi,
I'm researching the family history of my Dad who was born at Ridgefields Farm, Biddulph Moor, Staffordshire in December 1945. His mother was Mona Bailey Webb nee Battersby who was married to William Webb at the time. However, William was not my Dad's father as he was at war in Burma at the time of conception. Apparently there were American GI's stationed in Biddulph Moor at the time and I believe that my grandfather may have been an African-American GI.
Does anyone have any info about American units stationed in Biddulph Moor in 1945, please? ???

All the best,
Julie

Hi Pingu
in the absence of any response there is a recent new book on the village history of Biddulph maybe its for sale on a website; you could also try contacting Biddulph Library, High Street, Biddulph by telephone or you could also ask where they were based for added interest to the story?

I wonder if they were in the grounds of Biddulph Grange?  I also wouldnt rule out Stoke on Trent, Congleton or Leek as they are close to as well.
regards Gareth

Hi Pingu

I don't know if this will help any but there were American soldiers stationed at Bateman School, Park Lane in Knypersley. This would have been about 1945. More recently Bateman School became Park Middle School.
I have no idea where you could get any more information though.

Regards
Menfreya

To add to the above my mum found some more info last night.

Some GI's were stationed at Fairhaven in Knypersley. Others were stationed in the Fustian (Velvet cutting) Mill and the Miners Welfare Building both in Biddulph Moor.

This she found this in a book called 'Biddulph Moor Within living Memory' by B Ridgeway
