Can anyone tell me if the surname Kuntz is a German one?
-
Yes, it's a very common german surname,
Some variations:
KUNZ, KÜNZ, KUENZ, KUNZE, KÜNZE, KUENZE
and the same again, with TZ
KUNTZ, KÜNTZ, KUENTZ, KUNTZE, KÜNTZE, KUENTZE
The original german name could have been any of the above, now 'anglicised' to KUNTZ, to keep the german proninciation.
It is pronounced KOUNTZ (as in SHOULD) and not KUNTZ (as in CUP)

In the family I am researching then two sisters both married Germans not many years after the war.The sister who married Kuntz died in the same year as she married but on her gravestone the name is put as Cuinty.I wonder why!!!!!!

For the record the line I am searching are the Kuntze of Southampton. Frank Kuntze, his wife Caroline Ada Kuntze, siblings -- Herman Kuntze and the particular attention on the sister -- Pauline Louisa Kuntze who married Percy Vincent Bowyer of Southampton.
