I can’t work out where the family are in the 1851 to trace his mum , although there is a Thomas Jones Davies HO107/2473 mine wasn’t born then and the dads name is John not David.
Any help would be appreciated :D as I have only been doing this for about six months, and I am really stuck with this re-marriage.

Hi Ambers,
Do you have access to census?
Have a look at HO107/2473 352 36
I'd put my money on them.
Tanja :)
PS Why do you say remarriage?
-
Hi tanja,
That is one that I considered as well...
I am unable to work out where the formerely Jones bit comes in...1851 single, 1852 Sept qrt has baby registered by David Davies

Well ... formerly Jones means that her maiden name was Jones. Chances are high that she married between the date of the census and the birth of the child.
Tanja :)
Possibly September 1851 Carmarthen XXVI 711 ???
-
Hi Tanja,
So that rules out the Davies family in St Peter street, and makes her maiden name Elizabeth Jones?
Birth Certificate for Thomas Jones Davies says mother:
Eliza Davies formerly Jones.
So the lead is the family he was with in 1861, his grandmother Elizabeth Jones 55, might have had a daughter named Elizabeth who was not living with them.
I did wonder if he was illegitimate because formerly can be a name you are known by from what I understand. ???

Not sure we are talking about the same family ???
The family I had spotted were the Jones family headed by Elizabeth, widow, publican. With her, a daughter Eliza, another daughter Martha and a daughter Selina.
'Formerly' is the usual way of saying 'maiden name' on certs.

As for 1861, there is a likely candidate family at St Peters, Dame Street. Little daughter is called Selina Jane.

Sorry our posts crossed, and we weren't talking about the same family......that's why I thought he might have been illigitimate. ???
Now I know I should be looking for a Jones family....Elizabeth Jones, Publican with daughter Elizabeth sounds right.
I know I have seen an Elizabeth Jones School teacher in one of my searches. Hopefully as Selina Jones was a teacher in the 1861 where he was with his grendmother it will run in the family :D
.
Many thanks for your help and tolerance with a newbie.

Ambers - I am descended from Thomas Jones Davies' younger brother, John. I had already discovered the details about their parents included in this message thread but am wondering whether you had discovered any further details about the Davies and Jones families since the last posting which you could share with me. Interestingly, I note from another thread started by you that Thomas eventually ended up in Philadelphia. My mother, who is Thomas' great niece, knew that he had gone abroad but believed it was to Canada rather than the USA.

Hello LLW...distant Cousin :D
I was absolutely thrilled to read your post, as I have been re-searching for years without ever having any Contacts via the family ;D ;D
You will need to post three times before you can use the PM system where I can send you my email addy.
He defiantly travelled to the USA, his son joined him there a few years later, I have them both on the Passenger Lists.....his son married and remained there.
Can't wait to swap details.
I also have an Album that Thomas Jones Davies sent to Minnie the Christmas before he died.
