Hi.
I have just discovered that half of the Gambling Tribe from Whiteparish up sticks and moved to Chichester in Sussex between 1841 and 1851.
Would some kind sole mind having a look at the 1841 census for Gambling's in whiteparish for me.
Thanks

Hi Bill
There are 7 Gamblings in Whiteparish in 1841. They are divided into 2 households: Aaron 45 and James 4, and George 50, Mary 50 out of county, John 25 out of county, George 15 and Caroline 15.
I am not sure there was ever much of a tribe of Gamblings in Whiteparish. The parish register shows a total of only 10 baptisms, starting with Elizabeth in 1789 and ending with James in 1836.
Hope this helps

Hi again Bill,
As an after thought I had a look at the 1851 for Gamblings in Whiteparish.
James is still there, which makes me think Aaron died. The two Georges and Mary are still there. Caroline is missing but I guess she got married.
The only one from 1841 obviously missing is John. However, there is a Lucy aged 19 born Sherfield Hants. who is listed as a daughter-in-law who logically must be John's wife.
Hope this helps rather than hinders

Thanks for that it helps clear some of the mist.
The problem I have here is that the missing ones from the 1851 census are flitting between Whiteparish and Chichester so it is difficult to pin them down.
Because the 1841 census was the first it makes it nearly impossible to go back that extra 10 years to find out who was born to who so I am having to use a lot of "best guess" which I don't like doing.
The Whiteparish Gambling's are an offshoot of the Tilshead and Chittern families, all related, so I think what I need to do is find out who were at Tilshead and Chittern in 1841 and compare it with the other information I have.
If anyone has the 1841 census's for Tilshead and Chittern I would very much appriciate the information.
Thanks

Hi Colin
As an afterthought is there any chance of the list of Baptism.

Hi Bill

George 30 Oct 1791 ditto
Jacob 23 Dec 1792 bbs Ann
Aaron 16 Aug 1795 John & Caroline
Henry 16 Jul 1797 ditto
Henry 25 Jul 1819 George & Mary, lab

Good luck

Hi Colin
Thanks again.
It would seem that the whole lot of them moved on mass I have traced one lot to Alderbury one to Whiteparish and another lot to Chichester.
That should keep me busy.
Thanks again.

Hi Alli,
Thanks for that,
I am still having problems with the Tilshead / Whiteparish connection which is mainly due to the changes the Surname went through around that time so far I have 8 different spellings.
I am sure I have missed some as well as names keep popping up that in my heart I know are connected but for which I have no parents.
Thanks again for you help it is much appriciated.

Hi Avongirl,
The problem I am having here is that I have 2 William's recorded for James and Hannah one in 1757 and the other 1769 who Married Sarah Turten.
The 1769 William suggest to me that the 1757 William died as a child although I have not been able to find any evidence to that effect.
I am now re researching the William of 1769 just to make sure I have his parents correct and if everything comes up as I expect it to from previous efforts I am just going to have to except that for whatever reason James and Hannah did have 2 Sons named William.
