Hello!
I am researching the name DREW. Unfortunately, I do not have much to go on. They came from England and immigrated to Throop, Olyphant, and Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The family then picked up and moved to Buffalo, New York.
The DREW family is related to the FREEMAN-TONKIN family from Finmere, Oxfordshire and Kenwyn, Cornwall... I have my suspicions that the DREW family may have come from Saham Toney, Norfolk, but I am not positive.
The farthest I can trace back is Elisha (also spelled Elija/Elijah) DREW (1851 - 1909) married to Isabelle (maiden name unknown). They immigrated to Throop, Pennsylvania in abt. 1886 with their children. It seems Elisha may have either died or divorced Isabelle not long after they moved to Throop. Isabelle is burried in a pauper's cemetery in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. I have a copy of Elisha DREW's will.
Elisha and Isabell had: Dorothy, Margaret "Maggie", William and John.
John's middle name was William, but everyone called him "Billy." Billy married Mary Elizabeth Freeman, whom everyone called "Lizzy." For reasons unknown to me, many of the family members picked up and moved to Buffalo, New York.
Billy and Lizzy had: Olive, Phyllis, William, Wilbur, John Edward, and Warren. Warren DREW was my grandfather.
...I am not positive, but the parents of Elisha/Elijah DREW may have been William DREW and a "Mary A.", who resided in Saham Toney. However, the family names are so darn common, it is difficult for me to tell if I am on the right track, or if I am researching DREWS that don't belong to me. I am positive of my DREW family up until Elisha and Isabelle. But I am not positive where they were from, or who their parents were.
Please don't hesitate to write if this sounds like your family.... I have lots of pictures and documents to share!

Hello All. Also look at pilot.familysearch.org On home page Browse, select Europe, scroll down to bottom UK look for Norfolk Parish Registers, there is a lot of films of individual PRs, you need to scroll through them to find what you are looking for. Good Luck MIK.

Hi I was wondering if you could tell me who William married? Was it Mary Burguess? I know my DREW family immigrated from England to PA around the time frame you mentioning (and William was a very popular name for the family). William was my great grandfather. But I do not know his siblings names though. IF this sounds like we are from the same family then please email me at (*). I live in the US. Oh yeah and they were coal miners, then they moved to Iowa and worked in coal mines there.

Having made a small search of Saham Toney.
There was a Elijah Drew baptized 10th March 1855 Saham Toney, son of Robert & Mary Ann Drew, formaly Clarke.
They appear on the 1861 census at Saham Toney. As Robert Drew 33,
With Children, Robert 14, Mary Ann 12, Joseph 8, Elijah 6, Lydia 2.
Mary Ann mother of above was buried 6th Jan 1860 aged 33....
Robert senior baptized 3rd May 1827 Saham Toney, son of Robert & Lydia Drew.
Mary Ann Senior baptized 17th Sept 1827, Saham Toney, daughter of John & Priscilla Clarke.

Found 3/4 Public online trees for William Drew and Mary Pauline Burgess which I checked into and they are 'totally' up the pole! They show him born in Worcestershire 1858 - however, the couple they show as his parents did indeed have a son named William but he wasn't born until ca.1873!!!!
Intrigued by that I had to delve further. The major clues were in the 1900 Census in Iowa. William and Mary's eldest 3 children born in England were shown as Albert born Mar.1883, Magie (?) born Mar.1885 and Thomas W. Apr.1887.
I looked for Drew children with these names born in the same time frame and came up with:
Alfred (not Albert) June qtr.1883 Guisborough, Yorkshire (they could have changed his name later or indeed an error could have been made when the birth registration was recorded) - a March birth would likely be in the June quarter
Meggie June quarter 1885 Guisborough - a March birth likely to be June qtr.
Thomas William June quarter 1887 Guisborough - an April birth would be June qtr.
The online trees state marriage of William and Mary took place '1882 London'. There is no such marriage recorded.
I then looked for a marriage for a William Drew in Yorkshire 1882 (which is when census states they were married) and found:
William Drew June quarter 1882 Guisborough ref. 9d 739 - on the same page is Polly Burgess (have established via the census that the other couple on the same page married each other) - Polly is a nickname for Mary.
Alas, I cannot find an online record detailing the marriage so you would have to purchase a copy of the marriage certificate from the GRO.
Looking at the 1881 Census cannot see any obvious William Drew/Mary 'Polly' Burgess in the same area - you definitely need to know who the fathers of each were in an effort to trace back further.
So, if you've viewed the online trees I spoke of just ignore them - they are completely wrong.

Hi, I've just joined too and saw your post about Drews in Grimston and they are some of my Drew family too. I have John Drew and Jane Scott, with 8 children, at the top of my tree in Grimston.

Hi rossjackie,
At the moment I have at top of my tree Robert Drew 1796 married Lydia Scott 1793-1862 they married 1813, her parents are John Scott and Ann Newton.
Hope this is the same tree.
Best Wishes.

Hi again,
I am the 3x great granddaughter of Henry Drew born 1794 in Grimston, the eldest son of John Drew and Jane Scott her maiden name being on at least one of the 8 baptism records that I have for their children. They were married 15 Aug 1793, the year before Henry was born.
Robert was their second child but I have him married to Mary on the 1871 census but he could have been married before.
So it would seem we are working on the same branch. Henry had daughter Elizabeth, she had a son Emanuel who in turn had Edward Henry. My mum was his daughter. My family tree goes to the Wisbech area, Barnsley, Cleethorpes and Doncaster.
Hoping we can help each other further

The Robert who married Lydia SCOTT was born c 1791-1794 on Census either in Ashill or East Winch.
So he was Bapt either 17 Jun 1793 East Winch to JOHN/ELIZABETH or 7 Oct 1792 Ashill to JOSEPH/SARAH nee Cobb
1813 Marriage was By Banns With The Consent Of Parents, so they were underage,
They dont name a Son Joseph but do name one John Bapt 1837
