Title: Possible Missing Man - RIC 1920's
Post by: Corcam on Tuesday 01 August 06 19:38 BST (UK)
I am searching for a Fuller Biggs who disappeared in the 1920's - he originally came from Linton in Cambridgeshire and married a Mary Ann Payling in Doncaster in 1913. He served in WW1 and then lost contact with his family.

The story that was passed down through the family was that he went to Ireland and disappeared but not much else was known. He was a class Z reservist on his release from WW1, so there is a chance he then joined the Royal Irish Constabulary. I have looked at the list on Ancestry and there does not seem to be a Fuller listed – he  may have joined under an assumed name and then been killed?

I have searched 50 years of Death records and can not find any record of his death. His brother did try to find him in the 1930’s to no avail.

I would appreciate any assistance on this

regards

Hiya Corcam,

I see from your other threads you've received a few replies ...

On the Biggs - Denaby,Maltby,Retford,Worksop  (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,171842.msg815552.html#msg815552) thread Ambly posted details of the Medal Card record of Fuller Biggs and then following Heather's reply on the  Re: Biggs - Denaby,Maltby,Retford,Worksop  (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,171843.msg816563.html#msg816563) thread you took her advice and had a look at Ancestry.

Has anyone looked in either of Jim Herlihy's books ...
"Royal Irish Constabulary Officers" or "Alphabetical List of Officers and Men." ???

Thank you so much for the response, I did check all the BMD's twice and found no reference. I know he moved from the house he was living in, in 1920 but nothing more.

I will attempt to find someone with access to those books - as his middle name is also a surname it will need checking under Fuller Biggs and Fuller Chapman. He was also on the electoral roll as Briggs.

Thanks again

Corcam,

Ancestry has 7 Fullers who enlisted in the RIC in the 1920's all from UK.

There are also 3 Biggs - Harry, Walter and George - Harry seems to have enlisted and died in 1920.

There are 3 Briggs - English, Scots and Russian(?)

Thanks for the information. I presume I will now have to go to the National Archives to see if they have anymore information.

Best wishes
