Title: GORBALS , LANARKSHIRE ?

I have a Christina Bennett b 1816 Scotland, Peter Bennett b 1816 Scotland, and a John McPherson b 1799 Scotland, is this Christina's Father? they livid according to Scotland Census 1841 Tradeston 15 Commerce Street, Gorbals,Lanarkshire.

Christine and Peter have a daughter b 1850 in Ireland her name Eliza Bennett b 1850.

Can anyone throw some light on this family?

Hi Hopscotch,

This is difficult to say for certain.  The 1841 census does not record relationships.  Also the ages recorded have generally been rounded down to the nearest 5.  So presumably it says both aged 25?  And John is more accurately recorded at 42?  I would be a bit wary about thinking this could be her father.  Both Peter and Christina could be as old as 29!  Which would make it a bit unusual to have a 42 year old father!

Do they come back to Scotland at all?  Are they recorded on any later census which might give a better idea of their ages?  You need to find Peter & Christina's marriage - Scotlands People should have a record of this.  It is a pay per view site but this is the only way I can think of at the moment if they stayed in Ireland.

I never thought of them round the ages in 1841 census.

Well they did start young in starting the family's.

I will have to go on the Scotland People Site.
