Title: JENKINS Family (from Fulham?)
Post by: cogger on Monday 31 July 06 21:27 BST (UK)
I'm trying to gather info on Thomas Jenkins Ancestors/descendants.  Thomas was born in Fulham in 1815, Parents unknown.

He married Ann Crook in 1843 and had numerous children, amongst them Emily, Thomas, Ann and Frederick.

Anyinfo that could help me find out a bit more would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Joe, I don't think that he was married before Ann. though I can't rule it out as I have no evidence to the contrary.

I'm guessing that if I could find him on the 1841 census, he may be living with parents as he didn't marry Ann until '43, but there are no sure leads on the census either.

Do you have the marriage certificate? Then at least you would get his father's name and occupation, and know if it was his first marriage or not.

freebmd shows it: Ann Crook and Thomas Jenkins, both listed Jun quarter 1843 Volume 3 page 207.

jorose - no I don't have the marriage certificate yet.  I like to make sure I've exhausted all free avenues before spending the cash on a certificate!  :)

If he was b. Fulham his birth may be recorded on the parish records of All Saints Fulham, which do not appear to be indexed on the IGI.  (They will be at the LMA and possibly the Fulham & Hammersmith local archives will have copies)  There's some possibilities in the Fulham 1841 census for his relatives:

Thomas Jenkins, 47, Gardener, born in county
John, 18, lab to ditto, born in county
Mary, 46, born in county

and

John Jenkins, 46, Gardener
Sophia, 46
Frederick, 17
George, 12
Ann, 10
Benjamin, 8
Elizabeth, 6
Emma, 4

I can't spot a Thomas Jenkins, gardener, of the right age, in the 1841 census in Middlesex.

Thomas Jenkins b. 1815 is my 2nd great grandfather, his son Thomas George Jenkins is my great grandfather, and his daughter Florence Daisy is my grandmother. I have their marriage certificate. He married Ann Crook on 14th May 1843 at Parish Church of Hammersmith, the witnesses were George Sharp and Harriet Hampton. Thomas' father was Joseph Jenkins a labourer and Ann Crook's father was Edward Crook also a labourer, Both Thomas Jenkins and Ann Crook signed with an X. Are you related to the Jenkins? If you wish you may view this (via Google) info and my other relatives at my web page  Janet McKaig/Geoff Kelly Family Research Page. This is an FTM page and as you may know they can no longer be updated so I have other Jenkins info that is not included. You may already have this info since it has been up on my site for quite awhile. If you have any further research on Joseph Jenkins or Edward Crook I would love to see it.

Best regards

Geoff
