Looking for James Corrie Jardine or Andrew...and Alexander. They emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada very early on...am also looking for Jardines who might still remain.

Hi Sharon
It might narrow things down a bit if you told us what part of the country they were from and which century you are talking about.
Did they emigrate as a family, or singly.
What approximate age were they when they left?

Hi Sharon -
I am interested in a John Jardine who was born in Dumfrieshire (date unknown) married a Julia Murray 9 Dec 1836 in Barony, Lanarkshire. He died circa 1869.
I believe his parents were John Jardine and Catherine Rae.
Please contact me if any of the above names ring a bell.

I know the Jardines from Prince Edward Island, Canada hailed from Dumfriesshire. The Clan there has an EXTENSIVE genealogy. My grandmother had the book that they publish but it disappeared before she died this past March. She was Marjorie Jardine and was 97. (Jardine was her maiden name). If you look online for their site and I do not have it off hand, they are extremely helpful about checking out things for people. I do not know if this helps but I would be willing to bet that they have the information you are looking for.

Hi yn9man
Wondering whether you had seen this 1841 Census entry which is a possibility for your John and Julia:
JARDINE John 30 Agricultural Labourer b. England
JARDINE Julia 20 b. Outside Census County
JARDINE Catherine 3 b. Lanarkshire
JARDINE John 1 b. Lanarkshire
MURRAY Mary 45 b. Outside Census County
MURRAY Hugh 9 b. Lanarkshire
Address: Centre St, Glasgow-Lanarkshire
One child showing for them on IGI in the right time frame:
ELIZABETH JARDINE Birth: 22 JUN 1844 Barony, Lanark, Scotland
Regards.

My grandmother was descended from David Jardine and Adelaide Campbell, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Her father was one of their sons. Arrival in Canada I think was very early 1800s possibly sooner. I do not know anything about the Campbells but would like to know more.

MonicaLesl - :) :)
I recently saw the 1841 Census entry you referenced. That is my John and Julia.
My Dad always said his relatives were Scottish but that census and corresponding research prove him wrong. I haven't been able to find any additional information on the birth of John in England but his wife was born in America. Now why she went to Scotland from America is another mystery waiting to be solved.
Thanks again for your timely response and I apologize for my untimely response to you. This message just showed up today as a new reply to my posting.

John and Julia are my great great grand parents. In 1880 my greatgrand father Robert was living in Bennington Vermont with his wife, several children and his brother James. Both Robert and James married Annies. Robert ended up in Hartford Connecticut. James ended up in Berkerley California. Sadly my great grandparents had to bury 4 of their adult sons before they passed themselves. Attached is a picture of their grave in Hartford Connecticut. The small grave stone to the left and the three in the rear of their stone are the markers of four of their sons.
Im in the US. If you dont mind me asking where are you located, and how might we be related.

Here is a picture of my Great granddad Robert Jardine, probably taken in the 1920s. See any family resemblance?
Also found a record of John and Julia's daughter Julia Jardine marrying John Flockhart in Scotland on November 12, 1880.

Great picture. Do you know the location of the photo? Quite a "dapper looking" gentleman. Don't see any family resemblance but my tired old eyes don't see much anymore anyway. :)
Do you know how many children John and Julia had besides Elizabeth and Julia?
Looking forward to continuing correspondence with you.

I will preface with my grandmother, Marjorie Jardine Spry b. July 26,1908 and died March 24, 2006. She was part of the Jardines in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
The following I got off the PEI Island website...and I have found some errors after checking the Scotlandspeople website...
Andrew Jardine b. 6/14/1762 Hutton and Corrie, Dumfriesshire. Father: David.
Andrew Jardine married Isobel Corrie. Son, James was born 2/19/1794 in Corriehills and died April 15, 1871.
James Corrie Jardine married Jane Hope and they arrived in PEI in 1817.
I have also found a James Jardine married to Janet Corrie April 27, 1752 in Dumfriesshire.
I am still digging around to discover if Andrew had siblings.

Much of the information I have came from the Prince Edward Island website and there are some errors in dates on that site for Andrew. And I am confused...I found a David b. abt. 1728, Hutton-Corrie and baptised 25 September 1730, Dumfriesshire. I have Andrew Jardine m. Isbel Corrie 14 June 1762, father David and mother Mary Johnston, Hurrton-Corrie.
I come down from James Corrie Jardine who arrived in PEI 1817. James Jardine and Jane Hope had a son David...who married Adelaide Campbell. Adelaide was my grandmother's grandmother. Marjorie Jardine married to George Spry.
I am stuck at the same place you are...looking for siblings of Andrew and David. How are you related?

hello, I am not as far as I am aware related to this part of the Jardine family, I have not got that far back yet. The data was from general Jardine records I have been collecting.
The earlliest Jardine I currently have confirmed in my family tree is Joseph Jardine born circa 1800 probably in Canonbie, Dumfries, he married Helen Brockbank, 30 Jan 1828 in Canonbie. He was a coal miner. My tree is via his son William born circa 1834/5.

Hello from Vancouver, BC, Canada!
I realize that this original post is many years old....but if anyone is still available to reply then that would be great! My paternal family of Jardines came from Scotland and went to PEI, Canada. To throw around some names: James Corrie Jardine married Jane Hope and they went to PEI with their daughter, Isabella. They later had my ggg-grandmother, Elizabeth Jardine who married Donald MacKinnon in PEI. My family is looking for any info on Jane Hope as we are at a standstill....my parents are actually now in Scotland trying to find info on family members who moved to PEI in the early 1800s.
Help?

For info here too, these are her burial details https://billiongraves.com/grave/JANE-HOPE-JARDINE/12917389
So, she died at the age of 81 on 21 March 1878 so born c. 1796-7 if correct.

Am interested in knowing if you were able to get any more information on Jane Hope and/or James Corrie Jardine. Elizabeth Jardine and Donald MacKinnon are my gg-grandparents. Their son, Malcolm MacKinnon, and Ellen Smith are my g-grandparents and their daughter Mabel MacKinnon (nee MacKinnon!) and Russell Angus MacKinnon are my grandparents.

It is interesting that the register has James Corrie Jardine's DOB as 1774.
" James Corrie2 Jardine, born February 19, 1774 in Corriehills, Dumfriesshire, Scotland; died April 15, 1871."
I think it is 1794 as I understood they (he and Jane Hope) were a young couple coming to PEI in 1817. He was born in Scotland and this record is in PEI so perhaps the date was recorded wrong or the 9 looked like a 7 from a hand written document... ?

This is a book called "Jardines Of Atlantic Canada" which contains info on James Corrie Jardine born on Feb. 19, 1794 at Corriehalls, Dumfriesshire,Scotland. His wife was Jane Hope. They emigrated to Prince Edward Island about 1820. His father was Andew Jardine and his mother was Isabella Corrie both born in Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
