Title: Liverpool addresses
Post by: Harpist on Thursday 27 July 06 23:03 BST (UK)
Hi folks,

do any of you know anything about 147a Mill Road, Everton or 35 Long Lane, Fazakerley?
I'm keen to find out who lived there in February 1928 so would be delighted for any help.

TIA,
Harpist.

Hi Harpist
The addres you gave has been going round in my head
I am sure i added my bit to another persons topic asking about the same building  :-\and 147a was an infirmary/Hospital ajected to the workhouse. I don't  know a lot about liverpool only what i have looked up. I get the feeling you think 147a was a house, The directory if they have that year wont show all in the building.Only the name of the building and the address. I will see if can find the post.

Hi Celia,

I think you have just solved one problem for me. I thought that both addresses were houses but if 147a Mill Road is a hospital then that is OK.
All I need to know is who lived at 35 Long Lane.
Maybe then I'll get my long running problem sorted.

Thanks for your help,
Harpist.

Hi Harpist
there isn't any Year for liverpool near that year,But it doesn't matter it would have been there a long time.So the the nearest was 1900 Where i can confirm for you  147 Mill
Road Hospital (Everton) It was in Union Street off Mill Road,i believe building of this type were as big as Mills. So next time you see ???A in  later 1900's remember it isn't necessarily a Flat ;D ;D it might be an added on building
So that just leaves Long Lane,am i restricted to just that year or can i move up or down ??? I cant remember seeing a 1928 directory but there might be some local books so will have a look next week

At least I can now picture what the hospital must have been like :o
Glad I wasn't around then :)

Thanks,
Harpist.

You wont get months in the directories harpist They are big very thick and heavy Postal Directories. Have you tried looking at the on-line ones to give you an idea of what they are?  You might find them useful to use later on.

Haven't been able to get anything on Long Lane so far but if it helps then maybe to look at 1927 might be useful. I don't know anything about the directories but I thought someone might be able to check the electoral roll for me.
I am very grateful for any help at all + I'll let everyone know when I've found what I'm after.

Cheers, Harpist.

Do you know that Everton Cemetery is in Long Lane? I don't know what number the Lodge would be.  It's possible I'm driving past that way tomorrow ........ tell us more and why and I may be able to get a photograph, although it's a notoriously difficult road to stop and park.

Reason I'm asking for more background is if I'm caught photographing I'll need to be able to tell why.

Hi MaryA,

don't worry about a photo it's not necessary.
It's who lived there in 1928 that's important to me- I expect the electoral roll would have the answer.

hello
I have the kellys for 1955  I know its not the year you are looking for  and 35 Long Lane is a house .  there is a family named Davies
147a mill road was once a workhouse  and also a maternity hospital  my children were born there

Hello Doreen,

thank you, I have the full history now about 147a Mill Road - it seems it was several things before finally becoming a maternity hospital.
Someone else told me there was a Davies at Long Lane but it wasn't a name that tied in with my query. I don't know of any William Davies. That doesn't mean that there isn't a connection though. I'll just have to keep trying. I was hoping to find a different name than Davies but not sure what.

Regards
Harpist.

Hi Doreen,

the name I am hoping to find is Chapman, but it's a bit of a guess really as my info is rather hazy.

Hi, Harpist~

I am also searching for CHAPMAN's in Liverpool.  My names include William and Elizabeth (nee Cooper) Chapman, Dorothy, Sydney and Frederick George (children of William and Elizabeth).  The only date of birth I have is for Fred which was July 5th or 6th, 1894ish.  Any connections?  Thus far, I have had no luck finding any information on them.

Message to Harpist,

Did you ever resolve what 147a actually was in 1929

Would welcome any news you were able to find.

Nunc.

Hi Nunc

147 was Mill Road Infirmary, which started out as part of West Derby Union. see - http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Liverpool/Liverpool.shtml and search for "West Derby Union".

Hi Harpist,

I can't tell you who was at 35 Long Lane in 1928 but I can tell you who was there in 1938, (from the directory)  it was Rd Moorcroft I assume Rd meant Richard.

The only other nearest I have is 1914, I don't suppose that will help.

 :)

I could look in 1914 for you, do you have any names you are looking for?

Other than that, the electoral rolls would be useful, they are at Liverpool Records Office on microfilm.

 :(

There was a Wood Lane Gateacre listed in 1914, but no Beeby or Corcoran, do have any first names and occupations, I could look in the names index instead.

I would have thought that wood lane in 1915 wouldn`t have any houses in it ...only the 2 farms...I`m 2 miles away from wood lane ....allan
