Title: LONGSON & COXON FAMILIES
Post by: epfast on Monday 24 July 06 14:35 BST (UK)
Hi,
I am trying to trace my 3x great grandparents

I suspect that James Longson who married Hannah? in Ireland about 1820 was a serving soldier (His son James - born abt 1823 - was in the 5th Dragoons from 1841and was born in Belfast) I suspect that he followed his father into the Regiment any help and advice appreciated

The son James married a Margaret Coxon (he married her in England in 1845) Her birthplace was given as Fermanagh her birth date abt 1823. Her father was James Coxon a pensioner again I suspect a military connection.

I am new to genealogy and would be grateful for all and any help

Thanks
Jim

Hello Jim,

Griffiths Valuation extracts for Co. Fermanagh which took place in 1862 show no one named Coxon. Either they'd left the county, lived under the roof of a family with another surname or the name changed when they left Ireland. The Valuation is on John Hayes failteromhat.com website.
