I am looking for Horatio Pitt Gibson and his wife Mary and their children Eleanor, Agnes Mary, Sarah, Isabell, Elizabeth and Ann who were all born at Barrow in Furness. Could someone please check the 1861 Census for them.
Many thanks,

Nothing so far. Can you give approx. year of birth particularly for the parents?
-
Ive been searching for the last few hours and come up with nothing in 1861. It would seem Horatio was born 1793 (on the 1851 cencus)In London and on the 1841 cencus it is 1801.
Mary was born about 1809.
Ive found some of the children 1n 1861 as Servants but no sign of parents

Thank you Mary vera. It would seem fromthe other replies that Horatio and Mary were both deceased by 1861.
Thankyou also Joe. Could you please send me the names of the possible children of Horatio that you found?
Your help is appreciated.

John Ashburner and his wife Jane Farmer of 40 acres employing 3 men

Hi again Marie
Right, I think Ive found Mary in 1861
1861 Cencus-Adlingham
RG9/3171-31-12
Mary Gibson 52 head Widow b Bousfield ???-Lancashire
Ann " 14 dau b Newton
Mary Agnes " 6 Grandaughter b Newton
John " 3 Grandson b Newton
Elizabeth Fell 7 Grandaughter b Newton
If you look at the 1861 post that "Downunder" posted you will notice there is a " Fell " family there. Also the servant called Ashburner in " Downunders " post could be connected to the last post I sent you where James is employed by the Ashburner family.
Coincidence......I will let you decide ;D

Going back to "Downunders" post.....
Robert Fell married Eleanor Gibson in 1854.
He then remarried Margaret Brackwell in 1861 and had lots more kids
Elizabeth Fell 7 who is with Grandma Mary in 1861 is (Im almost sure) the daughter of Robert Fell and Eleanor Gibson and she is with Robert and Margaret in 1871.

Mary Gibson b 1809 is still around in 1871 if you want details let me Know.
The nearest I can find for a death for Horatio b 1793 is
Joseph Horatio Gibson died 1856 in Stockport-Lancashire/Cheshire
Vol 8a Page38.
This will need checking carefully.

Once again, great detective work Joe. Yes, Elizabeth certainly is the daughter of Robert Fell and Eleanor Gibson.
I would like Mary's household detals from the 1871 Census thankyou.
I don't think that the Joseph Horatio you found is the right one. I have his birth on the IGI as 1799 and his name was Horatio Pitt Gibson, believed to be the illegitimate son of William Pitt the younger and Mary Gibson Will never be able to prove that of course as he was born some months after Pitt died. Funny thing though, the Australian family had never heard of Horatio but Granny insisted her Granny was the grandaughter of William Pitt the Younger, through the Gibson family so that's why I went looking and was amazed to find Horatio Pit Gibson. All the books say Pitt died childless. My guess is he mightn't have even known Mary was pregnant!
With this info we could rewrite the history books :D
Many thnaks again, Marie

Hi Marie
Mary Gibson was living with her daughter Agnes Turner and a grandson William Hunter Gibson b.1862 there were living in Newton, Dalton, not sure who William belongs to. Agnes married James Turner in 1851 and had I think four kids James died and Agnes married again to John Storey in 1874, Mary died in 1889.
the 1861 census shows Mary 3 Grandkids Elizabeth Fell b. 1854 belonging to Robert & Eleanor Fell, Mary Agnes Gibson b.1855 was Sarah Gibson daughter and John Gibson b.1858 was Mary Gibson daughter, both Eleanor's sisters.
William Pitt died 1806 so Horatio (Pit) Gibson would of been 6 or 7 years old so he could of known him put probably didn't.
hope this helps
