Looking for the Tampsett's (or Tamsett, or even Tompsett). Living Cranbrook, Kent. Very possibly in Mill Lane.
Head will be William and Mary. Both born Cranbook.
Any help would be gratefully received.

James Sampsett head mar 44 General Dealer Kent Biddenden

Hi Kated,
I agree. Tampsett is one of those names you feel sure you should be able to find - and then you find it has so many spelling interpretations it becomes as hard to pin down as 'smith' or 'brown'. Sampsett is a variation I hadn't thought of - but I bet it's meant to be Tampsett.
Unfortunately not mine. Although I am heartened by a birth in Cranbrook.
Kind regards

Further on we have Folio 41 Tippings CLose

Hi Kated,
You are good to keep trying for me. No, none of the names seem any closer. But I am keeping track of all the ones you send me - with a name like Tampsett, they have got to be related somewhere.

YES. YES! YES! They feature. I have a Charles Tampsett b. Cranbrook married to a Frances Humphrey b. Brenchley.
I think Charles is son to William and Mary, but can't prove it. They should have a son, William, at some point.
I've just thought. I've never asked you which census year you are looking in.

KA,
Regarding your old posting below, my GGG Grandfather was William Humphrey b. 1827 in Brenchley. Perhaps related to Frances. Have you got any further with this prease.

John,
I've not worked on the Tampsetts for some months now, so need to relook at my notes to see where I was at. I can't hold it all in my head any more ;D When I have had a chance I will get back to you.
