Can anyone recommend a good (point me in the right direction) web site to begin my quest. I am in the US so somewhat difficult to drop in at a local records office or a parish. Want to learn as much as I can about Scottish Marriage Certificates. Tried "google" and other sites but came up with a rather LARGE :) number of hits.
Looking for general information as to when started, where certificates stored /kept, information required, accurateness of data (dependability), etc.
Thanks :)

hi my name is bisute, i live in western australia, and i have scottish rel, as well, i have joind the ancestry .com.uk but you can also go there and have 14days free trial, i found it very usefull, to me. and once you get into it you just click on to the maps they have like americia, england, wales and scottland. and then you go to 1841 census records, or what record you need to look up there is a lot there, so lets know how you get on. biscute,

Hi
Go to the website: www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
That is where you could view the actual register pages (recorded entries) covering births, marriages and deaths from 1855 on. They also have old parish records as well.
It depends on what you are looking for.
Hope this information helps you a bit!

Thanks biscute, tees and mitchell for the useful information. I have used www.scotlandspeople.gov website (successfully and unsuccessfully). On some occasions the site just seems goes to go "down". I don't think it is "operator error" on my end but it could be.
Again thanks to all and good luck with your Scottish research.

Hi yn9man
Sorry to hear of your difficulties with the website of Scotlandspeople.
This is the first time I have heard of such problems with the website.
Hopefully, you are able to access to the records without any problem by now.
Wish you the best of luck in your search for your ancestors! May it be fruitful one! :)
Kind regards

Success at last.
Was finally able to enter and search the Scotlandspeople website. I can only assume my problems were due to "operator error" but I would rather blame the horrendous weather conditions we had.
Thanks to all for assisting me in my family search. Off on another adventure now.
