My aunt and uncle Thomas and Elizabeth Blower and their daughter Rose Blower emigrated to Canada in the mid 1920s and lived in Hamilton Ontario. I know about Thomas and Elizabeth, through the kind help of rootschatters, but I cannot find out about Rose.
She would have married in Hamilton between 1928-1934
I think, I do have a photograph but no name or date on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
Have you tried the Hamilton Public Library:

Thank you Josephine for your suggestion and I have looked on the Hamilton library site, but as I live in England and there is no chance of my visiting the library I do not think it
could help.
Our library system is very good as I have no doubt Canada's is, but, one has to make a personal visit and
search they do not do it for you, in any case I do not know dates of either marriage or death. regards Molly

Oh, I'm sorry! I went to the library's website just now and I couldn't find a "Contact Us" link. That wasn't too helpful, was it?
Perhaps if you contact the Hamilton branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, they might be able to help:
http://www.hwcn.org/link/HBOGS/research.html
Maybe they have access to more recent marriages or an index.
If that fails, do you know when Thomas and Elizabeth died? If so, and if they died after Elizabeth got married, you could request a copy of their obits, which should list her by her married name and might even give her husband's name ("Mrs. Bob Smith", for example). Also, if you know where they were buried, you could write to the cemetery and funeral home in case they have Elizabeth's info.
This can all be done long-distance! ; )

Josephine

This page on the site has quite a number of email addresses:

Thanks, kintree!
I was looking for the usual "Contact Us" button and didn't think to look under "Library Board and Management"! ; )

Good luck, Molly! ; )
The thing I like about genealogy is there is always another clue out there just waiting to be found!

This seems to be the third installment of queries I have found regarding Rose Blower "Rus"...( surname found By KarenM after contacting cemetery) I'd find the link, but Molly, you should have linked these all together by now ...
There is now a Joseph Rus burial in Wentworth in the cemetery link given you on the other postings...
http://411ca.whitepages.com
If you have written to all Hamilton Rus, now try writing the others that are nearby, easy to see what is local by using google maps and just putting in hamilton On and you'll see Brampton, Whitby, etc...are not all that far away...
A notice in the Hamilton spectator wouldn't hurt either...we have probably helped all we can in your searches...
However, with all these postings, I am sure if there are any Rus searching out Rose's information, they'll find you here! J.J.

I was reading the thread about Rose Blower and I was wondering how sure you are of her last name. I have read the obituaries of some of the people in my line and people's names were often not reported correctly or misspelled. I know someone found the name Rus for you but perhaps you should consider alternate spellings.
From http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/search.php
You can search the Woodland Cemetery in Wentworth County by first names. Rose brought up Rose Rees which is very similar to what you have found. Her cemetery reference is HM-354. Also at that same reference is William R (Bud) Rees.
On the 1911 census for Hamilton is the following
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/View.jsp?id=29392&highlight=23&desc=1911+Census+of+Canada+page+containing+William+Rees
You can't be sure that it is the same person but if you go to the home page of the first link there should be contact addresses to write to for information on the Rose Rees gravesite - possibly giving her maiden name.
Also you can find addresses for Rees in the Hamilton area if none of the letters you sent out to Rus surnames prove to have a family connection.

Thank you so much for trying to help. Rose's maiden name was Blower. I obtained the name Rus from the notification of her mothers death (Rose Rus daughter). As there is no family left I think I have gone as far as I can.
regards Molly
-
Have also come up with another surnname...and there were some around Wentworth....
Riis....the two "i" s would surely look like a "u" if not dotted clearly?
Just a thought....? J.J.
-
I do realize that Rose's maiden name was Blower. What I was suggesting is that perhaps the person buried as Rose Rees might possibly be your Rose and that you could find that out by checking the particulars of her grave.
It might be a false lead but, for me, the similarity of last names, the same first name, burial in the same cemetery as Thomas and Elizabeth would make me take a second look at it. My husband's grandmother was a Lachappelle but her headstone was misspelled as Lachapple - anything is possible with names in genealogy!

Thank you for your suggestion, i will certainly try to follow it up.

Have heard the people there are really helpful...so definitely follow it up...Debbie is right
Look at the census image for Rees...It could be read as Rus...

Here are alll the queries regarding Rose...if the links no longer work, they can be found by searching username in the rootschat search...

Rose would not be on the 1911 census because the family did not emigrate to Canada until the middle to late thirties. Thanks again
-
O.K....Now there are lots of queries on Rose, which I have pointed out, and you need to pay attention to answers
on here...That family in the 1911 would be of the person whom Rose may have married!!!!...please go back and
read through your postings, as other people helping you are being far more thorough than you are....and this is
YOUR family... J.J.
-
Thank you for your comments. i realy think I have taken this as far as I can. Rose had no siblings, no
children and all I have is a name which may or may not be Rus and they would not be my family anyway, so I just have to accept that the family Blower are all laid to rest. I thank all of you who have tried to help me. It is good to know there are so many willing to help.
kindest regards Molly

:-\ So basically it is too much trouble to actually contact some resources yourself, although people have actually spent hours digging through information, making phone calls and hiking to cemeteries on your behalf? Then you make half a dozen queries about her, duplicating answers all over the place, & don't read through all the answers anyway. J.J.
