I have found that two of my ancestors were buried in Tomnacross Churchyard.
Can anyone tell me please if this churchyard was attached to a particular church or was it a facility for the town in general?
Many thanks. Linda.

Only just seen your post.
Are you still looking for details on Tomnacross Cemetery? If so I can perhaps help as I have books containing the inscriptions from the cemetery. Who were the ancestors you were looking for? If you give me their names & birth dates or any other info I will see if I can find them for you.
There were several burial grounds in the Kiltarlity area including Kiltarlity Old, Eskadale & Glen Convinth. Tomnacross appears to be associated with Kiltarlity Church.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. I will have to look at my tree to see which ancestors I had in mind because its a while since I posted.

There are a couple of pictures of the church on the HER.

If you go to the search page you can find the old church and also you can drag the map around.
Also one I took on this site.

I have just seen your message regarding the Tomnacross Cemetary and wondered if you have any record of any Newells being buried there? They were an english family living there sometime between 1860 and 1880. I am looking in particular for Thomas Newell although any other Newells would be of interest. Thanks, Phil.

Dear all,
I have relatives buried in Kilmorack and Kiltarlity cemeteries. I wondered if you have information on those buried in Beauly as well? I can of course provide some names and dates.
cheers

Re look ups
Sorry I can no longer do look ups as I no longer have the books. I had borrowed them and had to return them recently. You may be able to borrow the books from Inverness library if you live in Scotland. They were called Memorial Inscriptions Parish of Kiltarlity and Convinth & Memorial Inscriptions Parish of Kilmorack or you can buy them for about £17 from the Kilmorack Heritage Society, info@kilmorack.com. They have several books covering different areas.

ghostwhisperer,
Thanks for the info. regarding Thomas Newell,I would very much appreciate that picture if you could let me have it? I tried clicking on the world symbol and although it took me to the website, as soon as I tried to navigate around it, my computer froze (might be my old computer?)

Hi again,
Thanks once again for your help with Thomas Newell.
I am struggling to find the burials of my Great Grandfather and Mother who both died in Oban in 1889 and 1891. I have drawn a blank in Oban but wondered if possibly they had been buried in Kiltarlity (where my Great Grandmother was brought up as a child).
Their names were:- David Mackintosh (Architect) born in Inverness died 2/4/1891 and Emma Mackintosh (maiden name Newell) born in Pitnacree died 9/6/1889.
I don't know whether it was the custom back then for remains to be transported any distance or should I continue to search in Oban? Your advice would be appreciated
Thanks,
Phil

I have had a look and cant see any sign of them among the stones I have done in the Inverness area, but yes people did transport remains fair distances back then.

Hi
I’ve got two relatives who are buried in Tomnacross. James Hendry died in 1842 and Catherine Fraser died in 1821. They were husband and wife. Anything you have about them would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Callum
