Can anyone please tell me how to find ancestors of WILFRED CLYDE FERGUSON?
He was born in Newcastle N.S.W 25th July 1920.
N.S.W BDM only allow family history birth certificates lookups up to 1905, so if I can't find his parents from Birth Certificate where do I go from here?
Any help will be much appreciated,
Cheers
ozigirl.

Hi ozigirl :)
Did he ever marry, or has he passed away? You could get his parents' names off either of those two certificates.

Thanks Jenn and Prue,
Yes he did marry - Anne O'Shea 22nd Sept. 1952. No parents names were on the marriage certificate.
He died in 2001 in Newcastle.
Cheers Jen.

Hi,
No, I don't have his B Certificate because they do stop at 1905 and thought that was the only way to find his parents.
Cheers,
Jen :)

Hi Jenn,
I'm researching this for a friend, but I have seen the marriage certificate (NSW) and the parents of Wilfred and Anne are not listed on the certificate. I was surprised that they weren't. Every marriage cert. they I have seen from other states have the parents on them.
Regards Jen.

Hi Again Jenn,
Yes I agree, very odd. The occupations were listed I think it said grocer (Wilfred) and nurse (Anne) and that they were bachelor and spinster. I can't remember if it had their ages, will have to have another look.
Regards Jen.

Ozigirl, I wonder whether the certificate you saw was an extract, rather than a full certificate? I've not seen an extract myself, so I don't know if it is normal to leave the parents' names off, but it would be worth checking to see what the certificate says it is.
It would be extremely unusual, but I guess not impossible, for a full certificate to have no parents' names at all.

Would have to agree with Prue - it seems very unlikely that both parties did not know their parent names. I've seen a birth extract and it only has the date and the child's name.
Also - I have my actual wedding certificate - supplied by the preacher/celebrant at the time of marriage - and that only contains the names of the couple, the preacher/celebrant and the witnesses. If memory serves me correctly (it was a long time ago) the remaining information was obtained by the celebrant when he filled in the details for the licence application.
For any certificate listed in the available indexes online you can buy a transcript rather than a certificate - less expensive unless you have a definite need for a certificate
Re the birth certificate - a direct descendant can appy to the registry for a copy of the certificate - so your friend would have to sign the application. (You cannot get a transcript for these later certificates).
Trish
-
Trish, you are probably right - the certificate they have might be the one they got on the day of marriage, with their own names filled in, and the minister and witnesses, but none of the other identifying information such as addresses or parents.
Ozigirl, I suggest that you purchase either a transcript or certificate of marriage using the registration details OzyBob has given, because I'm certain that the information you need will be there.

Thanks Ozy Bob

Thanks Prue and Trish,
I will have another look at certificate and pass on your info to my friend.
Cheers, Jen.
