John BLACKMAN married Frances RUSSELL in Hadlow Down on 22.April.1842.
************************************
Can anyone tell me the names of the groom's father and witnesses?
***************************************
Their daughter, Frances, was chr. at Hadlow Down on 22.Oct.1843.
This family was living at Cottages, Mayfield, SSX on 1851 census. Frances jnr. shown as born Buxted.
Frances Blackman died during the 3rd quarter of 1853 - Reg. district was Uckfield.

If anyone has access to the burial records of Hadlow Down/Buxted, can you tell me whether it was the mother or child who died?

Thanks from Moltom

Hi Moltom,
I think the only conclusive way of knowing John's father & any witnesses to his marriage is to buy a copy of his marriage certificate. Parish registers don't always include this information :(
It's on FreeBMD Q2 1842 Uckfield reg. district (Hadlow Down comes under Uckfield) 7 639.
A Frances Russell is on the same page.
I did try to spot him on the 1841 census in the hope he was with his parents but information on the 1841 is pretty scant so nothing decisive.

You may well find the burial if you have a look on www.familyhistoryonline.co.uk there is small charge for some credits (£5) but burials and baptisms quite good coverage for Sussex.

I think I may have found the 1841 census for John under John Blackmore
H0107 1116 1 8 page 8
unfortunately there is Elizabeth Blackman age 75 Female Servant
and John Blackman age 18 both born in county
but I presume she cannot be his mother, maybe grandmother.

Kerry, it's transcribed as BLANKMAN but it could easily be BLACKMAN. This couple are in Buxted.
