Hello Biscute,
If you are in NZ you should be able to find in a library the book "Pioneers of Martins Bay" by Alice McKenzie.

Hi Biscute,
I lived and worked in both Milford Sound and Te Anau, and one of my old bosses has been flying people in and out of Martins Bay for years. He could probably put you in touch with a few 'locals' that might be able to help as well as the book recommended. Let me know, and I will PM you his contact details.
Cheers
Sally

Hi Biscuite, sent you a PM.
As I said, I was born in UK, moved to NZ in 1973 - lived in Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch (Shirley and Linwood), then Milford Sound (worked at the hotel there), and then Te Anau which is such a gorgeous little spot! Now am In Ontario Canada and going thru immigration.
Guess it's lucky I don't have kids who's ancestors might want to trace me one day.... hahahahaha !!!
Good luck with the Martin's Bay book too Jean! I must admit that I have never been there, other than flying over in a Helicopter. But I know loads of people who go there every year for the Whitebait season.
