Title: Look up for Thomas & Wallwork & Doyle
Post by: benjy83 on Tuesday 04 July 06 19:29 BST (UK)
Hi everyone,

I'm a bit new to all this and I've already come accross a stumbling block!

On my maternal side, I'm looking for information on one Ellen Wallwork (nee Thomas) born 1898. Her parents were Noah Thomas and Catherine Thomas in Swinton. She married a Mr. Wallwork (I don't know his name), and three children, Jean Wallwork (died at 15), Brenda Wallwork and Nora Wallwork. There were more children, but I've been told they died. I'm looking for Mr. Wallwork's name, D.O.B. and the date they both got married.

As for the Doyles (the paternal side), I have a gap I can't close. My GGm, Mary Agnes Doyle (nee Ralph) married John Doyle in 1934. I'm having problems finding John Doyle's parents. I don't know his age or date of death unfortunately. However, I remember my Grandad saying they lived around the Silk Street area, and upon looking at this area in the 1901 census, there is a Michael Doyle of 42 years at no. 68. I want to see if they are any relation, as Michael came over from Ireland.

Sorry to waffle but I got some good info in I hope.

Hope someone can help!

Hi Ben and welcome to Rootschat!  :)

In order to find Births, Marriages and Deaths you can currently access the complete indexes free here:

http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

Other pay-per-view sites might save you some time, as they have different indexing.  This method is somewhat time-consuming!

If you were to start from about 1916 to look for the WALLWORK marriage and work forwards.  It might be quicker to look for WALLWORK as there will be so many THOMASes!

Once you have the marriage, you can use Mr WALLWORK's first name to search for him in 1901 and work forwards to look for the children.

You can use the same process to locate the DOYLEs: find the marriage certificate and it will give you his father's name & occupation and John's age & occupation.  It should give you an idea of whether the 1901 census you have found is the right one.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Marriage

Sep quarter 1920

Salford Vol 8d  Page 96

Ellen THOMAS

George WALLWORK

Ordering the certificate would help identify the fathers, as mentioned above.
