Title: Stewart - Paisley 1871 Census
Post by: bates on Monday 03 July 06 14:01 BST (UK)
I have a Christina Stewart born 1848 place unknown
who married David Connell 7 June 1872 in Paisley.

Can anyone please tell me if there was a Stewart family living in Abbey Paisley in the 1871 Census PERHAPS with a father William Stewart (b 1814) and a mother Margaret nee Cragness

Many thanks
Tanya

Bates, on their marriage certificate, it says that her mother was Jessie Jeanie , maiden surname Burns.

That is them alright

Davids parents are Samuel and Jean.

David's first two children are also Samuel and Jeanie.

So if William Stewart is deceased where is he from?  Would they be on the 1861 Census for paisley

I am looking for the photo I have of Christina and Davids graves....

You could try looking for the marriage of a William Stewart and a Jean Burns circa 1850 or before. Christina could be a younger child.

On the 1881 Christina is shown as being born Kilsyth, Stirlingshire.

Could we perhaps start again:

Do you definitely know that David Connell and Christina Stewart are your ancestors?

If so, we should be looking for a William and Jeanie Stewart in Stirlingshire on the 1851 census.

Interesting development

I have discovered that Jean Burns who is Christina Stewart's mother was living next door to David Connell's parents in the 1841 Census

2 Mary St Abbey Paisley
Samuel Connell
Jean Connell
William
George
Samuel
Janet
(John already deceased)
Margaret
Jean

1 Mary St Abbey Paisley
John Burns
Jean Burns
Grace
Janet
Margaret
John
Jean 2

now I just have to find where the Stewarts fit!

Are these not William Stewart and Jean nee Burns?

Are you sure that the new Jean Burns is not someone entirely different?

Hi Tanya,
The Christina Stewart b.1848 and David Connell, I believe you are referring to were Married in 1872
First daughter was
Elizabeth Connell , from what I gather was christened on 15 Apr 1873 in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland, but must have died very young.

It doesn't appear the other children were Christened. They all migrated to Queensland, Australia with David and Christina, there details are below.

Samuel Connell born 1875 in Scotland. Deceased in 1942 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Jeannie Connell, unknown details

David Connell born 1880 in Scotland. Deceased 1949 in Queensland, Australia

John Connell born 1883 in Scotland

George Connell, Details Unknown

William Wright Connell

Robert Connell born on 7 Apr 1890 in Queensland, Australia

Kind Regards Treetime
