Seeking information on the COULTER family. David Coulter born abt 1826 and married Jane Simpson 1855 in Clogherney, Tyrone. Also a John Coulter born abt 1820 and married Elizabeth McCallum. Have not found their marriage yet. David Coulter and family came to U.S.A./Canada about 1865 and John's family about 1845/50. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Seasons Greeting Isabel,
I hope you are still active, I have a Mary Coulter b about 1830, daughter of Hugh Coulter mother not recorded. She married a George Seaton at Sandholes Presbyterian Church 26 Dec 1851. She appears to spent her married life between Sherrigrim, Glencon and Desertcreat, Co Tyrone. Any possibility of a connection? Also do you have Trimble or Grimble in your line?
Regards Abygail

Happy New Year Abygail.
Mary Coulter daughter of Hugh Coulter does not seem to be a relative of mine. I have no Trimble or Grimble in my line. Good luck.

Hi m1nxy,
I found reference to a Robert Coulter while looking for Matthew Seaton in the RIC, my Matthew joined 1895, Robert joined around the same time for memory. I had thought he may be a nephew or such to my Mary Coulter Seaton. Haven't pursued it further yet. Several of Matthew's sibling can be found in the Scottish census 1890, 1900, 1901. May be worth looking through them for your Coulter's.
Also is you do a google for "Robert Coulter" you will find plenty to read through, hopefully it will lead to something positive. Good Luck

Hi m1nxy
I'm interested in your finding of the family of John Coulter & Jane Barr. My grandfather was Robert Coulter born about 1878, from Co Tyrone we think in Fivemiletown son of John Coulter. He lived in Royton, Lancs after WW1 but I've got no further info about his Irish origins.
I'd identified John Coulter & Jane Barr as possible parents from a christening on IGI and I'd be grateful if you'd got any more info to confirm or refute this.
Thanks
Steven

Hi,
John Coulter married Jane Barr on 27 Nov 1877. As you said the IGI gives a birth for Robert as 29 Aug 1878 to John Coulter and Jane Barr. The IGI Pilot Search shows that there was only one Robert born in Tyrone in 1878 in the Jul to Sept quarter. It is not concrete but fairly conclusive.

Hi stevenz
Robert Coulter was born 28th August 1878 in Gortaclare Beragh Co. Tyrone, he married Maisie Waddel and had 1 daughter. As far as i know he was in the army and suffered shell shock, I'm not aware of him living in England but I will look into that.

Hi there, My great, great Grandfather was James Moore DOB, Abt 1829, his son was James Moore DOB 1853, Drumgurrn (I think) county tyrone, they immgrated to Australia, when James was just 3, they arrived in Australia onboard the vessel "Maitland". He died Oct 7th, 1925 at St Mary's. He was married to Annie Harriet Ransley on May 9th 1878.
If u have any info on James Moore Snr, he was married to a Jane Garvan, she travelled under the name of Jane Moore

I do not know how accurate your information is but I have found a James Moore who married a Jane GIRVIN on 21 Aug 1851 in Ballycarry Presbyterian church in the district of Larne, Co. Antrim. I also think that the townland you refer to is DRUMGURLAND which is in the district of Larne. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the information. I do believe we are talking about the same James Moore.
Was jane Girvin born around 1828, it sounds like see passed away after arriving in Australia, because James Moore remarried Annie Ransley.
Do u have any more info or know where I can find more on James Moore or Jane Girvin.
Thanks so Much

Greg,
Irish records are poor before 1845 for Protestant marriages and 1864 for other marriages and all births and deaths. It is necessary to rely on church records where they exist. I have looked at the Griffith Valuation records, c1860, ( a major survey of all property in Ireland) for Drumgurland and there are no Moore or Girvin families. Moore is a very common name and there are many in Co Antrim but Girvin is less so and there are a handful of families living just to the north of Belfast but several miles south of Island Magee.

Thanks again, since your last message, i looked at my ship records, for there arrival in Australia. Both James and Jane arrived onboard the Vessel "Maitland" with their 2 Children James 3 yrs old and Jane 8 months, must of been very common to name their siblings after themselves. Can u confirm that James Moore and Jane Girvin were married in the Parish of Islandmagee? From my ship records Jane Girvin parents were James and Sally, while James Moore's were James/Mary.
James Moore that left, his occupation was listed as Farm Labourer.
you have been a great help, thanks so much, are there any recommended websites that I should go to.
