Title: PANTER & COE
Post by: JaneBid on Saturday 01 July 06 00:56 BST (UK)
I am searching for information on a James Alexander PANTER born around 1966 in England.

In 1891 he married in Michigan US and stated his parents names were Joseph PANTER and Lizzie COE.

I thought that the family of Joseph Panter and Lucy Coe in Northants might be a possibility but there is no James or Alexander in the 1871 census with them.

The family story is that James Alexander was the black sheep and was sent away.

Any help or suggestions or connections?

Thanks
Jane

Hi

I have checked the full GRO BMD index from 1864-1868 and there is no birth registration for a James Alexander Panter.  There are a number of James Panter entries in various districts

I too am looking for family of Alexander Panter who married Mary Hood in 1891 in Michigan.  We have only a name of Lizzie without the Coe.  What do you know about Lizzie Coe.

This looks a strong possibility  ???

Looks like he may have reversed his forenames & for some reason our brits seem to adopt names a wee bit different from the actual...............i.e Alexander/Alfred & in the case of oor Scots for some reason Donald becomes Daniel but I think it is to do with the highland accent with that one as Donald could sound like Daniel if said as "Danald"

My grandfather Alexander James Panter was born in Beamville, Ontario Canada, who's father was Joseph Panter born in England. Could Alfred James be a sibling to Alexander?
I have found in my searches that spelling of names here and the USA were done by census people and they either changed names or spelled the names the way they sounded, so if they had an accent, the spelling could be different EG: Panter could be spelled Painter

Hi.

Welcome to new posters.

There is a tree for Alexander J Panter on Anc* with the parents being Joseph and Ann Cave.

Joseph came from Buckinghamshire.

I have looked through the baptisms for Desborough and find no link to a James A or
Alexander J Panter or Coe noted in them.

The only marriage in the time frame in Northants was a Joseph Panter to Hannah Coe in 1867.
