Title: Webb - parish registers
Post by: carrielovesfanta on Thursday 29 June 06 19:27 BST (UK)
Hi all,

I'd be very grateful if someone could look up the christening of Paramus Webb (may be spelt otherwise - Parowmus, Parrowmas etc). I have his place of birth down as Barnwell, Cambs in about 1836.

Many thanks in advance

Cambs FHS has a baptism index 1801-37 on http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html

There's a Paradise Webb in 1834 at Caldecote, which is the nearest I can find. As he was 26 in 1861 the age fits.

Regards

Hi David,

Thanks very much for looking. I had already seen that website but I was hoping that someone could look at the fiche for me if they were going to the records office.

Best wishes

Is there a Barnwell in Cambs ? I have that being in Northants - just south of Oundle. Could it be Burwell. ?

I assume you've found on FreeBMD his marriage in 1858 to Mary Ann Luck in Halstead Essex.

regards John

Yes i've got the marriage thanks :)

The place name is down in the 1861 census as Barnell but my parents live near Cambridge and my dad says that Barnwell is now an area of Cambridge about a couple of miles out from the city centre. i figured that in 1861 the urban creep might not have caught up with it yet.

I'm going to order the marriage cert when I get paid as I think it might help a bit!

Barnwell was also known as St Andrew the Less

I've been through the CDrom but still nothing for a Para* (no surname) other than Paradise. I've noticed that Paradise Webb was a daughter so I think you can rule her out!

The spelling of Paramus is highly variable. i've seen:

Paramus
Parowmus
Parowmas
Parromus
Porromas

etc etc etc.

Could you try searching with Parr* please?

Thanks very much for all your help :)

No Parr* in Cambs at all.

Even though Paramus is easily spelt in a variety of ways there are only a very limited number of variations of Webb, and there's nothing that even resembles Paramus.

Fair enough - thanks very much for trying :)

There's a good chance that he wasn't baptised because he was a gypsy - although he did get married in church so I thought there was a chance.

Thanks again for your help

Hi

I too have been searching without success for this baptism. As his sister Mary Webb married my 2 x grandfather Moses Harris    >:(
