I have a bill from C Lovegrove Funeral Directors for Mar 1937 in respect of Thomas WHITE. Thomas was a son of my great grandfather's first marriage.
Here is the puzzle:
In the bill it makes reference to "opening the Family Grave at Reading Cemetery". This was the first I knew of a family grave and may provide some valuable information on the rest of the family if only I can find it.
I've searched the records for both Henley Road and London Road (Cemetery Junction) sites and cannot find a Thomas WHITE buried in 1937. I've also taken a look through two or three other church graveyard records that in theory were shut by 1937 to no avail. Talking with the Berkshire Records Office, their view is that it is likely to be at Henley Road, although I wonder if it is a true "Family Grave" it may well be fairly old and sited at London Road. Either way, I can't find reference to Thomas being buried and therefore the grave.
I'd welcome some ideas to try and crack this, being local I am able (work permitting) to visit either site.
Regards

Long shot, but would Cyril Lovegrove have further details?.
They show as still trading, although they've probably been bought out by now.

Pauline,
Good point, they are still trading - in fact I've had occasion to use their services.

Hello Harry
I just 'googled' Reading cemetery and it looks like its the Cemetery Junction graveyard, London road as you thought. If you give it a try the first web-site has some photos of some of the gravestones in there.....
Good luck, Lynn.

Have you looked at the Berks FHS MI records? They have done most of the Reading Cemeteries. Their search room is in the old row of houses in the record office carpark.

Thanks for the replies, most useful.
In addition, I've spoken with the Senior Archivist at BRO who says there are microfiche records of the Reading Cemetery.
