the website www.wayfarers.net has a really good map of the parishes of ross & cromarty.
to find it at the above website choose "pan-ross" in the "choose a community" option on the left hand menu bar. then choose "heritage" as your "category" and finally "place names" as "topic". when the page loads click on "Place Names of Ross and Cromarty"

Very nice site. I've been researching my son-in-law's ancestors from Avoch parish, and now have some nice pictures to add to the book I'm making for him.
Thanks for posting this link.

Hi! I noticed your areas of interest at the bottom of your comments on the parish map...I am descended from a Peter McKenzie and Annabella Gillies (my gg grandparents) who emigrated from Applecross (the family thinks) and were last living in Plockton before leaving Scotland in 1851. I don't know for sure who their parents were, but according to naming patterns of their children, Peter may be the son of Donald McKenzie and Christina ?, and Annabella Gillies may be the daughter of John Gillies and Anne Mackenzie (that spelling). I am also descended from a Moffat family from down near Annan, Dumfriesshire but don't have enough info on them to really pass them along at this point. I'm just wondering if the above names from Applecross ring any bells. Thank you! Also, I'm a newbie, so if I mess up the sending of this message, my apologies.
