Title: Surname Interest - DARVELL - Chesham
Post by: AHC on Tuesday 27 June 06 21:24 BST (UK)
Hi  :)

I've been gathering information on the Darvell side of the family (father's side) for a few years and have compiled quite a vast family tree.  My branch of the family moved from Chesham up to Bacton, Suffolk, then my great grandfather moved back down to Chesham.  The family is huge so would love to hear from anyone else researching them or have any other connection.  Have one or two ancestors still to look into.   :D

Chesham has quite a few Darvell families still, one runs the local bakery. You could check the telephone directory.

I too am interested in the Darvells from Chesham.  I have William Drvell married to Fanny Ware in 1769. Is this linked to your family?

Hi thanks for your message.  Haven't really had time to do much family research lately but yes my line descends from William and Fanny via son John (c1789) & Elizabeth Collyer.  Thomas (1814) & Eleanor East.  Joseph (1842) & Ellen Hood.  Joseph (1880) & Kate Walduck.  Henry (1903) & Dora Woodward (my grandparents).  Don't think I've missed anyone out.  How do they fit into your tree?

Regards Anne

You replied whilst I was requesting, sorry!  Matthew Darvell born 1772 married Charlotte Lovet.  They had 4 children William Lovett Darvell, Selina Lovett Darvell, David Darvell and George Darvell.  William Lovett married Rebekah Wright and they had 9 children.  Mary Ann married George Taylor and had 4 children.  Annie Taylor married Arthur Tilbury and their daughter Ida Dorothy was my husbands
grandmother, clear as mud!?  I would love some more info regarding the children of William and Fanny if you have it and can spare the time.  Have you any more info regarding Matthew and Fanny themselves?
Sue

Hi again

Just had a quick look at the info I have, which I have found via ancestry.com or from others connected to the tree.  Some of it I haven't investigated further to confirm the info as yet but it might be of use to you anyway.

William Darvell b c1746 m Fanny Ware c1746 19 Oct 1769
Children - Thomas b 1770, John b 1772, William b 1773, Elizabeth b 1775 (think died 1776), Elizabeth b 1778, Joseph b ?. Matthew b 5/5/1781 (you have him b 1772).

I was aware of Matthew's marriage to Charlotte Lovet but I think he was married three times as I also have Jemima Lyon and Sarah Jordon.

I also have William b 1808 married to Rebbecca Wright but I have 10 children. Sarah b 1830, George b 1831, Charlotte b 1834, James b 1836, William b 1839, Mary Ann B 1840, George b 1843, David b 1846, Jane b 1849 and Elizabeth b 1850.  On Ancestry it has the William and Rebbecca living at Waterside, Chesham in 1881.

It's quite a large tree, don't mind emailing you gedcom file?

Hi Annelsie

I have a George Darvell b 1858 in my tree but not much info on him other than his parents were Ware Darvell and Mary Luckett, his siblings were Charles b 1856, Rose b 1862 & Walter b 1864.  Does any of this ring any bells?

Hello ANC  - I have very little on the Darvells, being mainly interested in the Miller family from Berkhamsted. I have George with mother Sarah and sisters Emily and Sarah in 1881 so it doesn't seem to tie in with your George. Thanks for replying annelsie

My 3x great uncle, George Craft, married Rachel Darvill from Little Missenden in 1855. In the 1861 census they are living in Bray's Green with Rachel's daughter Martha Ann Darvill, aged 9 and her mother Sophie Darvill (born in Chesham) aged 63. Rachel was George's second wife.

Hi! Just seen your posting re George CRAFT & Rachel DARVILL, Buckinghamshire. We are researching some ancestors in common. I am a descendant of James 1790  -1867 and Ruth. Ruth was the 2nd wife of James but I am now trying to find the name of his first wife plus any offspring. Have you any information on this? Perhaps we have findings we can share?

Hi Annelsie & All the Other Darvell Researchers,

I have research the Darvell family over the years and have George's family back to 1688 the birth of William who married Mary Jennings although there is still a few gaps. I can help you out Annelsie, the family becomes very involved.
I also some years back had information sent to me on the William Darvell and Fanny Ware Family, which is not connected to the George Darvell family, so if anyone needs help there I can also help. This is all in hard copy only, but I can work something out.
The Darvell Bakery in Chesham was established in 1838 by George's Grandfather as a wedding present from what can be determined and is still in the hands of rellies today who I know. Not Bad 171 Years.
So give me a call for Help!!
Cheers
daraus

Roberta,

Thank you SO much; that's fabulous.  I love you!

Being really cheeky, do you have an birth, death. marriage details?

I remember May Ann Palmer (b 1877) who was married to Daniel Ware Darvell (Ware Darells son), as she lived with My Nan (her daughter - Emily Rose Darvell b 1898) until she died. I have a great photograph of us together.

Thanks again, for taking the time to reply.

Look to see if my line of Darvell (Darvill) was married to Thomas Harding the martyr of Chesham.  Our family line comes from Chesham, England.  My father is Arthur John Darvill (1930) - His father was Frederick John Darvill (Baker)1899-1987 was married to Bernice Nutter. His father Fredrick Darville (Baker) 1874-1952 was married to Lizzie Gomm. His father Fredrick Darvill (Carpenter) 1853-1891 was married to Elizabeth.  His father William Darvill (Wheelwright) 1927-1860 was married to Elenor.  His father Jacob Darvill (Farmer) 1796-1854 was married twice (Mary & Elizabeth).  That's where I get stuck,  Anyone researching this line?  I was once told we were related to Thomas Harding of Chesham, but I can't get back far enough to see if he might have been married to a Darvill or Darvell.  I know Thomas' wife's first name was Alice.  Any info would be appreciated from this Darvill line. Thank you!  Nancy Ann Darvill Lee (aka Kapua)

Kapua:
I have long had a DARVALL one-name study, which has its roots in Buckinghamshire.  When I saw your interest in the name Jacob Darvell of Chesham, I thought this might link to the Quaker Darvalls of Gt Missenden/Lee/Chesham, who all had biblical names such as Simon/Samuel/Jacob.  My research in that area does not go much beyond 1750 as the spelling had usually become distinctly -ILL or -ELL by then and I am primarily looking at the origins of those bearing the -ALL name today.  But I have for instance Jacob Darvall (d.1733) who had no children but names his nephew Jacob Darvell as principal beneficiary under his will dated 1733.  Happy to give you more detail on this if of interest after all this time?
Tim
