Is there anyone out there who has carried out research on the WHERRY family name???
Looking for info on WHERRY's who originated in the Cornwall area and migrated to Australia.
I wouldn't say no to any info on other members of the tree who remained in the UK.
Appreciate any assistance
Cheers
Len

Hi Len,
Can you please tell us who you are after and where in Cornwall they originate from? There are quite a few Wherry's in different parts of Cornwall. We will need more information such as names, ages and places to be of any help I am afraid....Kris :D

G'day Saddler,
Thank you for your contribution. I don't know what it was due to the fact that the info had been removed from the site.
G'day Kris,
The info that I have on the WHERRY clan is that they came from the St Austell area and surrounds.
The first ones that I have are Samuel married to Mary-Ann TABB.
Two of their children, the first being Samuel born 16 April 1844 in the St Austell area married in Cornwall to Mary Ann MOYLE 28 December 1870. They had 9 children.
His sister, Eliza was born about 1862 in Cornwall. Eliza married James William COLLIER in Australia.
Both Samuel & Eliza came to Townsville QLD Australia on the ship " Florence " on the 17 June 1876.
Samuel was accompanied by his wife, Mary and two of their children. It would appear that there may have been a couple of their children buried in Cornwall prior to their voyage.
I don't know if there were any other children other than Samuel & Eliza or what happened to their parents.
There was quite an age difference between Samuel & Eliza. There may have been others.
Eliza was only 14 years old at the time she came to Australia.
Cheers

Hi Len, We will see what we can discover here. Have you checked the St Austell Website Yet? http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~staustell/index.htm
Julia Mosman the OPC has a lot of information transcribed on the site and you can email her with any questions. I suspect there may be something funny here. I havent seen Samuel in the 1871 yet but this could be Eliza.

OOH Len It looks like Eliza is not Samuel's Sister at all. Here is mum in 1861 and her name is Martin not Wherry. They are in Camborne. You will see some very good Camborne sites also listed in my Links to Free Online Parish Records http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,52054.0.html
We are really fortunate with Cornwall to have so much information available free of Charge including most of the Census. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,144624.0.html

Well Len...What a confusing family... I finally found Samuel and Mary. ;) We are out of Cornwall! They married in Lancashire and are in Lancashire for the 1871 Census. There are a lot of Cornish miners there including other Moyles from Gwennup on the same page.

Hi Kris,
Yes, you are 100% correct, it is a very confusing family.
I have actually been helping a friend (John WHERRY) trace his family.
We have managed to get most of them here in Australia but over there is a different matter.
We went over to Cornwall last year to see what could be found.
Unfortunately the limited time that we had to not only search for his lot but also mine in Cheshire certainly didn't prove to be very beneficial.
Eliza certainly was a mystery. Not the only one, mystery that is, that we found however.
John is what you would say, Internet illiterate but he is certainly getting better in time.
I have sent him a copy of the data that you have given me and I'm now waiting for an update from him to compare data.
It would make it a lot easier if we had internet access to the various Census records.
I have a copy of the 1881 but unfortunately his family arrived here in Australia in 1876.
I appreciate your help and info that you have provided.
The websites that you have indicated will give me a bit more reading & searching to do. Thank you.
Cheers
Len

Hi.
I was wondering if you managed to find any information on this family. I have since realised that the name warmington is connected to Wherry and were baptised in Cornwall.
-
Welcome to Rootschat Jwarmington.
Len hasnt been on here since 2015 but hopefully if he has the same email he will be notified of your reply.
In the meantime I am mot sure what you require.
Are you looking for a Warrington/Wherry marriage?
What time frame and where England or Australia?
Trish :)

Hello!
It is nice to e-meet you. I understand that there is an Elizabeth Wherry born Warmington and wanted to know if it was the same connection. Elizabeth in question was baptised in cornwall, Lenivet 1789. Her brother, Charles Warmington baptised 1792 is my great x5 grandfather.
I wanted to know if there was any connection. I cannot find the date of Elizabeth Wherry, born warmington's death.
-
Nice to meet you too :)
I'll s what I can find for you about Elizabeth Warmington/Wherry and post if I find anything.
In the meantime Ill post stuff on the very old query of Samuel and Mary Ann Wherry as trees dont seem to have much info.
If I go back far enough your Elizabeth may may match up hopefully.

possible marriage for the Elizabeth Warmington baptised in Lanivet
Lanlivery 10 April 1808 William Wherrey & Elizabeth Warmington

-
likely burial in Lanlivery 17 Oct 1845
Elizabeth Wherry 56 of Pelyn Turnpike Gate
the opc database is good for this sort of info
https://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/person-search/

1841 census Pelyn Gate, Lanlivery HO107/145/4 folio 29 pg 2
William Wherry 55 ag lab
Elizabeth 50
Elizabeth 25
Nicholas 20 ag lab
Samuel 15 ag lab
Woodman 9
all born in county
The Samuel in the other query was the son of John so doesn't seem to be the same family.
-
So Elizabeth married WILLIAM Wherrey/Wherry 10 May 1808 Lanlivery
Children were;
WILLIAM 05 Mar 1809
JOSEPH 13 Jan 1811
CHARLES 31 Jan 1813 Fathers Occp Stone Cutter
ELIZABETH 30 Jan 1814
JAMES 05 Nov 1815
NICOLAS WARMINGTON 17 Aug 1817
ANN 04 Apr 1819
WALTER 22 Jun 1820
SAMUEL 26 Oct 1823
AMELIA 30 Oct 1825
WOODMAN 07 May 1832
I was hoping that there would be a connection but on M/C 1841 Samuels Father was JOHN.
If it had been William we may have had a connection to Lens family.
Trish :)
