Title: lost family
Post by: susanhamilton on Monday 26 June 06 15:23 BST (UK)
???Trying  to  locate  families  of  James  Dickson  and  Janet  Boyd  who,  sailed  from Glasgow  in  1918  for  a  new  life  in  Australia.  I  think  they  may  have  settled  in  Prahran,  near  Melbourne.  They  had  six  children.,  Robert,  James, Ruby,  William, Marion  and  Neil.  Births  probably  ranged  from  1920---1938/40.  Janet's  parents'  names  were.,  Robina  Wilson  and  James  Boyd  anf  James's  parents'  names  were.,  Robert  Dickson  and  Euphemia  Briggs.   James  and  Janet  married  in  Glasgow  Scotland  in  1918  and  then  set  off  for  their  new  life.
Any  help  on  this  would  be  greatly  appreciated.  Susan  Hamilton.

Do  you  know  how  I  would  go  about  finding  the  rest  of  the  family  and,  any  marriages.?
You  have  been  a  great  help.  Susan  Hamilton.

Hello there

the marriage index in victoria on ly goes to 1942

unless you go on line to the victorian bdm

and have a look there they have a reasonable charge of one dollar but the actual certificate is about 17.50
but you can directly down load to your computer BUT i dont know what time frame they go to
i will check on that
also dont fill in too many details just the name often gives more results  i seethat susanbuck has added the site for you to go to

A death certificate for the first of the two who died (James) should give details of their immigration (time in Australian states), marriage and children. The informant would probably have been his wife, so she should know the details  :)

apologies - you probably have most of that - funeral notices may give the married names of the daughters, but not the dates.

There is a death index for a James Boyd Dickson father James mother Janet age 62 EBEN  1984 27633

Hi  Jenn.  Only  recently  got  in  contact  with Laurise  through  the  Genes  Connected  site.  I think  she  is  just  in  the  process  of  doing  her  tree.  Another  relative  thinks  that  Janet's  sister,  Marion,  may  have  went  to  Australia  also.  She  was  born  in  1900  and  married  William  Hynd.  Sorry  I  don't  have   more  to  go  on.  Susan.

Susan,
Don't know if you have put any of your names into the National Archives Site. This body holds a wide array of Aust. records including war service  histories.
http://www.naa.gov.au

When I typed Albert Borneman and Raymond Eades names in, they did come up as being registered for one reason or another.
Albert's seemed to be about someone trying to trace him and Ray's was a service history I think.  Does not at that stage list his wife [as you have listed her] as NOK.
If you want to know more than the basics on the screen, you can apply online.  Follow the prompts.
Hope you can manage to see what I saw!!
Sue
