Title: Dumfries Police 1840's
Post by: MaryMc on Saturday 24 June 06 03:45 BST (UK)
Hi,
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Is there anywhere i can find lists of Policemen who served in Dumfries in the mid 1800's?

We are looking for a Superintendant William McNab and would love to find any of his Police records!
Thanks

MaryMc

Hi Mary have you tried contacting Dumfries and Galloway Police.
The web site is http://www.dumfriesandgalloway.police.uk/aboutus/history.htm it does have notes about the history that may interest you. There is a contact link, you could ask about Police staff and service records ,which may be held for the mid 1800s.
Worth a try. :)
Doreen.

Mary
When you contact them, see if they have any pension record. With that rank would think there would be one. That's how I got what was left of my
Grandfathers police service record.
