Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me find a baptism for a William Forse/Force, who was the son of William and Matilda Forse. William snr and Matilda had 4 daughters who were christened at St Swithins, Walcot between 1820 and 1835, however William jnr was not christened there. He was born probably around 1823.
Any help would be much appreciated. ;)
Regards,
Jane.

Hi Miss Jane,
I found a William FORSE aged 28 in the 1851 census for Reigate in Surrey and his place of brith is recorded as Clifton, Gloucestershire which is about 15 miles from Bath. I cannot find any on-line records for Clifton Baptisms but the Gloucestershire Family History Society (see link) will do searches for a cost of £2.

I don't know whether this is your William but in the census he is a Police Constable, married to Elizabeth (born Bath about 1826) with a son William Jones? FORSE. The reference is: HO107/1599/1 Folio 112 Page 32.
Hope this is useful.
Regards,
Al

Hi Again,
I've just made another connection which leads me to believe that the family I found in the 1851 census is very likely to be your William's:
1861 Census, Walcott, Bath
Ref: RG9/1693 Folio 32 Page 22
Address: 9 Chappel Row
William FORSE, Lodger, Mar, 37, Fly? Proprietor, b. Clifton, Gloucestershire
Elizabeth ditto, Wife, Mar, 35, Chiropodist, b. Bath, Somerset
William ditto, Son, 10, Scholar, b. Kingston, Surrey
I think it would be worth asking for a baptism lookup on the Gloucestershire board for William Senior before trying the GFHS.
Regards,
Al

Hi Al,
Thanks for looking all that up for me! :)
Yes, you did find the right people in the census index. William's wife was Elizabeth Tuttell (b 1826 in Bath) and their son was William James Forse.
I've had a look at my local library in a baptism index for the Bristol/Clifton area, and unfortunately couldn't find my William Forse. I've also posted a message on the Gloucestershire board and had no replies.
Maybe he was christened at a place other than where he was born. ???
Thanks,
Jane.
