Looking for any YEWERS (but specifically Abel YEWER occ = labourer) from the Staines area of Middx. I do not know his age other than he died @1859. He had a son called Alfred John YEWER b. @1830 so Alfred would be aged @ 11 in the 1841 census. I also think that Abel had a daughter called Charlotte but I cannot confirm that.
If anyone could assist I would be most grateful.
Thank you.

The writing is hard to read, but could this be the family you are looking for mistranscribed? :)
HO107/718/12/30/14
Staines
Abel Elver age 46 ag lab N
Harriet Elver age 42 N
Charlotte Elver age 16 N
Alfred Elver age 11 Y
Will try and find them on the 1851 and see how the ages match :)
-
Wow! The names and ages seem to match.
Alfred Yewer was married in 1850 (to Emma Aldridge) and I think that Charlotte (if I have the right one) was married in 1849 (don't know to whom).
Thank you.
-
Have found Alfred and Emma in 1861, but no luck so far in 1851. Do you have the 1861 census? :)
-
Free BMD has Charlotte Yewer marrying Daniel Larter in Staines in June 1849.
And from the 1851 census.....
Address Police Station, London Road,Staines, Middx
Daniel Larter head 36 b Suffolk Police Constable
Charlotte Larter wife 25 b Staines
Martha dau 1 b Staines
Hannah dau 2 mths b Staines
Ho107/1696 folio 239 page 30.
And same as Nessie-I can't see dad in 1851 either. ::)

Hi,
Perhaps someone would like to check this,as the index says 'Geever'
1851 census for Staines Middlesex
Piece 1695 Fol.287 Page 9 Staines.
Alfred Yewer 30 Lab in mill born Staines Middlesex
Emma 19 born Staines Middlesex.

Yes I agree with you Joburg.- this seems to be them.
And with that surname in mind I've also found mum and dad in 1851 ;D
HO107/1696 folio 287 page 8
At Shooting off (yes it DOES say that ;)) Staines Middx
But both of them transcribed as Geever
Abel Yewer 56 head farm labourer b Buckinghamshire ???layer??? Can't read it sorry
Harriett Yewer 52 b Stoke Bucks
Jane Sherwood 2 (grnd?) child b Staines
Caroline Shieves or Shields? 1 (grnd?) child b Staines
The writing is awfully spidery and difficult to read.
Second opinions required please ;D
Hope this helps

Just noticed that next door to Alfred and Emma in 1851 is 20 year old widowed Henry Sherwood- maybe he's baby Jane's dad- and therefore brother in law to Alfred?
I have corrected the Geever/Yewer mistranscriptions.

Thankyou all (Nessie, Carol and Joburg) for your help in this.
The SHERWOOD is interesting as I believe I've found a Charlotte YEWER who married in 1849. Died giving birth to Jane perhaps? The age etc would fit.
'Shooting Off'! Well I've just got to find that!

If you want to PM me your email address I'll send you the image of the Shooting Off census. ;D
All you need now then is the marriage of Charlotte to Henry Sherwood.
Have you tried BMD- poor kids - he was only 20 and widowed.

The 1851 image is on it's way to you ;)
The Charlotte Yewer who married in 1849 married Daniel Larter (see my earlier posting)
I think that the Henry next door to them must be a relation?

this thread may be dead but.....................
there is an Abel EWER in 1841 Dob c 1801 born and living in Denham, Buckinghamshire. He is with his Mother.
Mary EWER Dob c1776.
What do you think
