Hi Christine

I've had a quick look on Scotlands People. I cannot see a birth entry for John anywhere in Scotland between 1855-59. I used wildcards on the spelling of the surname, St*b*k* and nothing, sorry.

Regards.

Same results on death entries, between 1920-30. What info do you have that makes you think he was born/died in Scotland?

Regards.

Thanks so much Monica for trying to find info for me - much appreciated.
A relative of ours - now deceased- told us that John was raised as a Hoggan - his parents were John and Helen Hoggan nee Buchan.
Helen had a previous marriage to a McFadyen who was killed in the Blantyre mine disaster of 1877.
We were told that later she had a child called John who was assumed to be a Hoggan but when his death certifcate was found the name Stonebanks was recorded as his surname.
We cannot find any info on him.
Thanks again
Christine

Hi Christine

I'm a bit confused! I remember these names (John and Helen Buchan/an) from the previous postings relating to this family.

Can't see how John Hoggan/Stonebanks could have been born late 1850s, the same period as his parents' births who then went on to marry in 1883 (both widowers).

From this link www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,150510.0.html you have the details of John Hoggan and Helen Buchanan's marriage and some death details.

Was the John you are searching for John (who married Helen) or a child from Helen's first marriage..........or another John???

Regards.

Monica
