I would like any information on the surname CLAYPOLE in Peterborough, Northamptonshire. I would like to make contact with anyone researching this surname in Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, or anywhere in England. I have a Sarah Claypole who married Ambrose True at St John the Baptist Church at Peterborough in 1746. Who was she? Are there any CLAYPOLES in the 1841 census for Peterborough? Also are there any TRUES at Peterborough in this census?
I would appreciate any help at all, thank you in advance.

Five + years later, but better late than never, eh?
In 1572, James Cleypole (Claypole), 1534-1599, of Kings Cliffe, Northampton bought Northborough Manor, just 7 miles north of Peterborough. He and his descendants lived at the manor for the next 100 years or so. His grandson, John Claypoole (son-in-law of the Protector, Oliver Cromwell) was forced to sell Northborough Manor and other properties to pay his debts.

There were certainly Claypoles in Peterborough in the 1861 census. There are also two very distinct lines of Claypole descent (certainly going back before Oliver Cromwell's time) in Northamptonshire - one lot originating in Leicestershire; the other - probably including the Northborough lot, coming from further east.
You might consider having a look at Cambridgeshire in the 1841 (and later censuses). There were certainly several families in Whittlesey - just over the border from Peterborough - and a few had contacts with Huntingdon - which might explain the Cromwell contact.
