Hi Chris
Many thanks for the quick look-up.
The details you sent are very helpful in filling in the gaps.
Yes, I think New Normanton could be the same village.
If you have time, could you please recheck the other 2 families.
I am particularly interested in the family of Thomas WAGG b.c1854 Normanton & wife Emily b. c1858 Barrow.
Many thanks for your kind help.

Vivian,
Does Samuel Wagg killed (war) 1 July 1916 aged 37 yrs (or 34 yrs) figure in your enquiries?
It is not census data just a newsclip. He lived Burton Rd, Derby which is relatively near Normanton, Derby.

Hi
All WAGGs interest me ;-)
I am compiling a W*GG* One Name Study.
See my website http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~vivianegan/wwwgg/
Do you have a personal interest ?
There are 2 Samuel WAGGs born in 1883 one at Derby & the other at Littleover.
No clues yet which one died in WWI. Any ideas ?

Vivian,
I have no personal interest.
I would think that the one mentioned below is Samuel, Son, Unm, 8, Derby mentioned by Chris above. I base that on the fact the two addresses are about 3/4 mile apart . The age given below is 37years whereas on the Commonwealth War Grave site is listed as 34 years.
"Mrs Wagg of 2 Angel Yard, Burton Road, Derby, has received official information that her husand Pte S. Wagg of The Sherwood Foresters was killed in action on July 1st at the commencement of the british offensive on The Somme . Private Wagg who was 37 years of age enlisted 8 months ago and had been in France about 4 months . Prior t the war he was a milkman and was also an invalided pensioner of the Boer War in which he fought. He leaves a widow and five children to whom every sympathy will be extended."
