No doubt along the way you have found ancestors who were a former footballer in the Football League and you may not know a lot about them.
I have in the past done some lenghy research into former players, I am currently working on two players as I write this; Tommy Clare and James Massey who turned out for Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday respectivly.
I have a number of resources to me both online and at home in the form of a wide variety of books. In particular I am interested in Sheffield United but will look at other players if anyone requires.
For an example of my work visit: www.geocities.com/paulmh_uk/YOUNG.doc
Usually I will, with my research try and find all apps + goals scored, provide an account what they player did during his career, also if possible (not always possible) is to add match reports and further statistics to the players biography.

For those who doubted me 'no player before 1900 can be found,' well here is my next instalment of player profiles. Thomas Clare who was capped four times for England whilst playing for Stoke.
He played in Stoke's first Football League game and was club captain, in all he played just over 250 games for his club.
I will also have another player to upload shortly, James Massey who was a keeper for Wednesday - now that will be worth reading!

I was told by my mother that her brother John[Jack]Hughes played for Wrexham.
I looked at this site, http://allfootballers.com which shows a Jack Hughes playing from 1829 -1832 .
Unfortunately it's the wrong man. wrong dob and birthplace.
My John/Jack Hughes was born in Liverpool in 1899.
Is it possible that my uncle was a player there anyway.?
I actually emailed the club a few months ago but they never replied.
If you feel you could find out more than i've been able to, i would be very grateful.

Hi Paul
Would you be able to find anything out about Robert Groggins, who played for Carlisle United before the first world war?
I haven't got round to contacting them yet, but have browsed their site, and didn't find him there.
Thanks

Hi Paul
This might be a long shot but I shall ask any,
I have been told that an ancestor of ours played football for Ireland (where he was born) and for Swansea City. Probably around the early part of the 1900's
His name was Kevin Clarke born in or Dublin, he was my father's uncle, my father was born 1924 just so you know roughley the age of him
We remember seeing an International cap on some photo's when we were younger but that is about it
I understand that you may not be able to find anything out about him but I thought it would be worth a try anyway
Cheers
Sheila

It is well worth contacting the National Football Museum at Preston. They hold a lot of details including pictures of League Footballers back to the year dot.

hi there. i noticed your posting and wondered if you could find this team for me from an old photo.
It is probably in the 1920 region, and in or around Aintree or Fazakerley in Liverpool
the guy in the flat cap sitting at the front left and the one on the floor in front of him are my ancestors, Andrew & Richard Andrews
Just thought id ask
