PLEASE HELP does anyone have the 1841 halifax yorkshire census - addresses supplied If anyone can possibly help I am looking for Benoni Carter aged approx 39, his wife Sarah aged approx 42 and their son John. They would be in Halifax probably in the Upper Kirkgate area. I do know that in 1837 they were living at 6 Upper Kirkgate and by 1845 they were living along Broad Street. If anyone could please check either of these addresses I would be eternally grateful as this is the only census when they were together. By the time of the 1851 they had separated. Sara

On my Calderdale Companion website, I have sparse details about a Benoni Carter running a school in Church Street, Halifax around 1850.
If you could share the information here, rather than in private correspondence, we could all benefit.

Hi all I know is Benoni Carter was in York Castle in 1841 census in 1851
he was at Nelson street Halifax 1861 with his sisterElizabeth Firth he was a schoolmaster in 1861 living Southowram Rent and Debt Collector i heard from someone on roots he commited suicide .

The suicide of Benoni Carter is reported in several newspapers in July 1861, though, curiously, none are local.
Freeman's Journal (Dublin) reports on July 17th 1861:
'Mr Benoni Carter, rent agent of Halifax committed suicide suddenly by cutting his throat. The unfortunate man was driven to distraction by the conduct of one of his clerks, who is in custody for forgery.'

John Carter was christened 11 July 1824 at Halifax.
Father - Benoni Carter and Mother Sarah (according to Family Search).
Benoni (born 2 Dec 1802 and christened 11 Dec 1802 at South Parade Wesleyan, Halifax) married Sarah Frankland on 28 November 1822 at Halifax.
I can see a Sarah Carter (age 40 but transcribed by Ancestry as 64) and sons John (15), William (10), Thomas (8), and Alfred (3) at Charlestown (Halifax, Northowram, District 3 Page 10) - all born in county. Is this the family?

I have just found that Benoni Carter is my 4th great grandad and am very interested in what I have already found out about him.Does anyone know if there was ever any books/photos etc of him around the Halifax area ?
