There is one entry for a Duncan Ogilvie on the Scotland's People website for a baptism from the years 1818-1823.  This is a pay per view site.

Hello compo, my name is Graeme Johnson Ogilvie. My family are from south shields and my great great great grandfather was Duncan Ogilvie master mariner, born arbroath, married jane johnson. he died at sea on his ship the nestor in terrible storms off the east coast. Also alexander Hunter is a relative. are we talking about the same person here? sorry i am new to the site and registered as i saw this post from way back. thanks. graeme

hello graham nice to hear from you .I do have a record of Barbara Ogilvie marrying an alexander hunter and they had a good few kids so that information you have would tally . I am pleased to find Duncan was from arbroath tho sad to find he died in such an awful way . how do you know this information was it handed down through the family ? or have you done some research ?

Hello there, Yes the information has been passed down through the family. We have the history going back to Duncan's father, possibly grandfather. They came from Glenisla in Angus. My own father is an Ogilvie from South Shields. I have been back to Arbroath several times and there are grave stones in the abbey churchyard related to our family also. Alexander Hunter was also an interesting character. My own son is christened Alexander Thomas Johnson Ogilvie. I am Graeme Thomas Johnson Ogilvie and it goes back for about 5 generations using the same names. It's taken a good 20 years to piece the history together as some information about his ships exists at the maritime museum in Greenwich. I may have said previously but the ship that sank in the great storms was the Nestor.

I realise that my answer might not be of any help to anyone as I don't know the original enquiry. Anyway I am busy transcribing baptisms of people at St. Hilda's church South Shields and have come across a spelling error.

I am entering a baptism for Jane Phoebe Ogilvy on 13th April 1851 (born 6th February - presumably the same year). The mother's name is given as Jane and the father's name has been put in as DOROTHY!!  I looked at what Family Search has entered for the father's name and they have put in Donrin.  The father was listed as a mariner and I wondered if it is possible that the father was Duncan but because of the Scottish pronunciation it might have been mistaken as Donkin and spelt incorrectly in Family Search as I have found several errors there.  I realise that this is speculation but I hope it is of some help (especially with the name Phoebe mentioned in threads).

Looking through the transcriptions I am doing for the website Durham Records Online I have found the following Ogilvie entries - both children of either Donkin and Jane or Duncan and Jane (with his occupation listed as mariner)

Baptised on 13th December 1848 Ann Donkin (these are both Christian names)  - born 2nd November presumably 1848

Baptised on 15th November 1846 Matthew Willie  born 21st October presumably 1846

hi,
South Shields records show a marriage for Jane Johnson to Duncan Ogilvy 30 March 1843.
You possibly already have this info?
thought I would pass  it on anyway.
