Would any kind person be able to help and find the birth of Andrew Dighton/Deighton/Diton 1869 from census it gives Croydon Surrey I have him on the 1891 census any help would be greatly appreciated :-\ :)

Next door to Andrew on the 1891 census is Elizabeth who I take to be Andrew's mother or at least a close relation, and her children. On the 1871 census Elizabeth plus husband and children, but minus Andrew are in Sussex.

Just to say that there is a thread about this family on the Sussex board too. No idea where Ellford is in Sussex though.

Hi
You can now search the full GRO index yourself free of charge at
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx Choose SEARCH THE FULL IMAGES (BETA)
The partial index (freebmd) can also be searched on the same website or at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com
Copy certificates can be obtained online at www.gro.gov.uk
Have you double checked his birthyear and birthplace on the 1881 census which is free at www.familysearch.org
-
Thank you I have tried Freebmd, I can't find him! :-\ ???
-
Freebmd is only a partial index transcribed by volunteers. If he is not on freebmd then you need to search the full GRO index - see above
Where was he in 1891 as I can't find an Andrew Deighton/Dighton b 1873 Croydon on the 1891 or 1901 censuses

Could any kind person please find me the birth of Andrew Dighton/ Deighton 1869 - 1873 Croydon ( if we go on his age at marriage it would be 1869/1870 ) I am desperate to find the next link in the tree and get further back. Thanks to Rootschatters i have just received his marriage to Caroline Smith his father is Andrew also but if we can get his mothers name from birth cert is Ellen it will confirm that he belongs to Jas (James ) Dighton & Eliza Lee family as shown on the 1851 census
The 1851 Census Plumstead Kent ? Coomon Open Ground
Jas Dighton Head widow 47 yrs Tinker & Grinder bn: Sawbridgeworth HRT (~1804)
Dighton John son 19yrs bn: Rainham Essex ~ 1824
Dighton Saunders son bn: White Rodden Essex ~ 1831
Dighton Isabella daughter bn: Capel Kent ~ 1834
Dighton William son bn: Ilfover Essex ~ 1837
Dighton Lawrence son bn: Barking Side Essex ~ 1842
Dighton Henry son bn: Swanscombe ~ 1847
Jas (james) Dighton?s wife I believe was Eliza Lee
Saunders Dighton (above 1851 census) was baptized and recorded on the lDS IGI Baptism site ?his mother is nominated as Eliza Lee and father James D(e)ighton
Any help however little would be greatly appreciated.
ONE SMALL LINK WOULD COMPLETE THE CHAIN. :) ;D ::)

FreeBMD coverage charts are here
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/progress.shtml
so you can see which years they have full coverage of the GRO index and which they do not.
If you cannot find the birth on FreeBMD
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
then in the years where there is only partial coverage you can search the GRO index itself using the images of the pages themselves at Ancestry.
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx
These last two websites CaroleW already gave you and they are only what all of us are using to find civil registration information. For the Croydon area there is no local registrar index online as well to double check, though you might wish to contact the local registrar and see if they would search their records for a possible birth.
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/RegOffice/
Up to 1875 though it was compulsory to register births there was no actual punishment for not complying so some births were not registered. This would particularly apply to travellers. It was more likely they would just have their child baptised than registered as well. Copies of Croydon parish registers will be at Croydon local studies library and also at Surrey County Archives in Woking.
